So I have a newish Shield and love it... working on accessorizing now.

I have a pocket holster for when I have the big pocket pants on, and a nice IWB for concealment. Both are great.

I would like an OWB paddle style holster that has a Level II retention, such as the Safariland holster with the thumb press. Something to keep in the truck for when I'm out at the property and will be climbing on and off of mowers, weed whacking brush, and whatnot.

I see plenty of options for my full size M&P9 but nothing for the Shield. Am I just over thinking it? Will a standard kydex holster keep it snug just fine? I am NOT concerned about having my firearm taken from me by a rabid chipmunk... more concerned with climbing and bending and having it pop out snagging a tree branch or equipment. That was why I was looking for the Level II option.

Thoughts?

I don't know anything about the retention levels, but with I carry any gun in a belt holster (whether loop or paddle) I carry in a holster with a thumb-break strap (loop holster) or push-button retention (paddle holster). I don't know if that meets your requirements or if a simple thumb-break/pushbutton qualifies as level 2 retention, but if you look around at DeSantis (my favorite), Galco or Blackhawk you should be able to find something that suits your need...

Yes... the simple pushbutton is what I was looking for. Not a fan of the Blackhawk Serpa personally, but the thumb press release like in the Safariland would be perfect if they make it for the Shield. I will check DeSantis. Thanks!

Safariland does make their 6377/6378/6379 for the Shield. It's bulkier than the 537x "GLS" holsters but is more secure, especially if you add a 6006 ALS guard to it. I have both.

They each have a place. I like the GLS for how it locks the weapon and provides casual retention, but when I'm in a higher risk environment or OC I prefer the ALS.
