While I'm still EDC'ing a S&W 1911PD, I've pulled the trigger (not literally, YET), on a S&W M&P Shield 9mm. I expect to move it into EDC rotation in 2-300 rounds.

I've always preferred a non-tacticool magazine pouch, preferably leather, mandatory covered and the cover secured either by snap (preferred) or velcro. Think a belt sheath for a folding knife.

So the question is: the Shield 9 has very tiny (relative to my 1911) magazines. What I will carry as the spare is ~ 4" long, 1.25" wide, and less than .75" thick. Any recommendations of either magazine pouches OR knife/multi-tool sheaths that fit the specs, please?

I use a nylon sheath from a Gerber Gator folding knife. Both the Shield 7 and 8 round mags fit perfectly and is unobtrusive on the belt.

Barsony makes some generic pouches. Sneaky Pete makes leather but no flap. They might be able to make something custom. I usually use a sticky brand in the pocket magazine pouch even though I have the others as well.

Shows as a ~ 5" knife. The 4-ish inch mag doesn't disappear in it?
And *unobtrusive* is my goal.

Thanks for the idea Coastie, I'll check it out. And, I looked at your profile. If I understand it correctly ... thank you for your service.

Oh, soooo close. I'd never hear of Barsony, but that's looking close to a winner. *Thank* you bassgunner

The magazine is shorter than the original knife; however the baseplate will catch on the lip of the pouch and hold it in a position that it can be grabbed when needed. The velcro that secures the flap is wide enough that it will adjust to the height of the magazine being carried.

I've used it for a number of other single stack mags including 3913, LC9 and 1911. I'm sure that there are a number of other sheaths for similar knives that would do double duty as a mag carrier in a pinch.

The Shield 8 round mag is so easy to pocket carry by itself that I never got a pouch.

Use what works for you. Two of my prior kydex magazines both recently snapped. I just purchased a non-covered JM Custom Kydex, Mag Pouch Version2. So, far it it has been working very well for me. I carry concealed and the Shield is on my right side about at 3:30-4 o'clock and the mag pouch is between 9:30-11 o'clock.

here you go, I use a swiss army knife scabbard for one of their longer folding knives. My shield 7 and 8 shot mags fit perfectly. (for that matter so do my glock g42 and g43 mag. No one has ever known the wiser. Additionally, I have a couple of my older leatherman carriers and they work also. I have just started action shooting and typically have 4 spare mags on my belt, again no problem. I don't know how to attach pictures here or I would show you what they look like.

I use a cell phone leather carrying case which has a built in belt clip.It is large enough to carry a full size 1911 magazine or one for the Sheild. It has a magnetic flap that closes the top portion.

I'll second the Barsony. Good price and quality. Mine is brown to match my other leather. I only really use it at the range though. When I'm out and about I just toss a spare mag in my left front pocket.
