Shield Plus 15 Round Magazines

I am still having issues with 15 round magazines not holding slide open after the last round is fired. I know this was a common complaint early on but I don’t seem to see as many comments about this, so I am hoping this has been fixed.

I bought a shield plus about a year ago along with (3) 15 round magazines. The night before going to the range for the first time, I loaded the mags with 14 rounds and the next day none of them held the slide open after the next round.

I took the springs out and stretched them back, but they were reset as soon as they were reloaded.

I tried the Shield Arms magazine springs I’d read about on this or another forum, but had similar results.

I contacted S&W customer service and they had me send in the original magazines and they sent me new replacements. At first they seemed promising, but after being loaded with only 13 rounds and sitting for the last month, the slide stop is barely engaging the slide.

I am wondering if the main flaw is related to spring tension on the slide stop lever.

I have 8 15-round, 5 13-round, and 3 10-round mags that I interchange between my 2 Shield Pluses and Equalizer (can't have too many magazines). None of them fail to hold the slide open after firing the last round in any of the three guns.
I suspect you might have something going on with your Shield Plus and not the mags. Have a gunsmith take a quick look and see what he thinks. If it's the gun, you'll probably have to send it back to S&W.

I believe I might have found and fixed the problem thanks to a someone’s on an another forum describing their fix for this issue.

I removed the spring that holds the slide stop down and slightly compressed/bent it to reduce the tension or force it exerts on the lever. Initial testing indicates the problem has been solved.

I will report back after additional rounds of testing/firing are completed.

Put quite a few rounds through it this weekend and it appears to functioning properly now.

Hope this helps someone else with same issue.
