thinking about upgrading my Shield 1.0 to a Plus... was looking at the Plus for $415 shipped, or the Performance plus with 4 inch slide for $523 + shipping....

my question is. outside of the ..9 inch longer barrel and the fiber sites (I'm going for the non ported. I don't like ported guns for EDCs) what am I paying for with that $130 extras for the performance? Is the performance plus worth it over the regular plus in your eyes? or just go with the basic plus

The performance center models should also have upgraded Striker safety spring, striker safety, sear and sear block parts which will make the trigger pull real smooth and crisp. Similar to installing all the apex components.

I have the 4" Shield Plus.

From what I have read - the trigger is NOT different in the Performance Center models.

But, those fiber optic sights are awesome. I never liked fiber optic sights before - but the ones S&W uses have metal spirals around the light rods... To protect them from breaking.

You also get a longer barrel. Longer barrel = longer sight radius... Which usually makes it a little easier to shoot accurately.

I think the extra cost for the 4" model is definitely worth it.

buy what you want but I traded my shield 1.0 for a shield plus performance center with a ported barrel and love it. This is the first ported barrel pistol i have owned and noticed less recoil. The sights are amazing. Good luck

ok, so no trigger change. only thing is .9 inch of barrel length and fiber sites... hmmm, I'll have to decide if that is worth the $130 extra. cool

Reading ppkaprince98 post... there are a lot of trigger changes...

Where is the truth?

I was just going by the next post down stating he was incorrect. I have no idea... as SMith and Wesson doesn't seem to state the bullet point differences in these new models as well. I'm just trying to find out if there are anything besides barrel and sights that are different as an incentive for paying another $130

Assuming that ppkaprince98 wasn't right (however I'm guessing he was right), the difference would be:
- barrel length
- sights
- nicer look.

If you treat the firearms as tools - no reason to spend extra money.
But if you find at least one reason to have PC version:
1. longer barrel - better accuracy and less snappy
2. FO sights
go with it.

My thoughts on it:
When you go to S&W website and read detailed description, you will find additional info about Performance Center models:
- PC Tuned Action
I don't shoot Shields on daily basis, but this above looks like everything what ppkaprince98 posted...

Well, I take it back - MAYBE... On the S&W website... If you go look up the 4" Perf Center Shield Plus. It does state "PC tuned action."

But, both my 3.1" Shield Plus and 4" Shield Plus are Performance Center models. So, the triggers ARE the same... But, on numerous video reviews of the guns, however - people claim the normal Shield Plus trigger is the same as the Perf Center model...

So, who the hell really knows.

I think the longer barrel helps make the gun a little more accurate at the range.

My 4" model is one of my 2 main carry guns. I swap between my Gen 5 Glock 19 and this 4" Shield Plus.

Exactly, who knows... I think S&W definitely did something more on PC models, but it looks like trigger feel is very subjective and each of shooters picture it differently.

Agreed. In my opinion it is more visible between 3.1" and 4" than between 4" and 5".

4" barrel is the best compromise between accuracy and concealability.

sooooooooooooo, what you're saying is that the answer to my dilemma is to get both? got it :D

I really like the shield plus perf 4 incher as it seems to be the most highly praised, but I'm slightly worried about length as I like to jacket pocket carry a lot in the winter and the shield 3.1 inch has always been perfect for that.

That is what I did...

I actually also had a 4" 2.0 Shield and a Version One 3.1" Shield...

But after getting the two Plus models, I sold the other Shields. So, I just have both size Pluses...

I have 3 shields...2 for me, 1 for the wife. I already know that I'll end up replacing them with shield pluses lol. I sold one already for $400, which is what I'm using to fund the new plus with it.

though I'm going to be a fuddy duddy and not put an RMR on it. I know it's the rage and it has it's advantages but it just makes a micro compact CCW too bulky for my tastes, especially since I like belly bands and jacket pocket carry.

(I mentioned not getting a red dot on the reddit S^W section and brought down the wrath of god on me being called a FUDD to "ignorant rube" after that faux pas)

Yea, I don't care for optics on handguns either. I prefer iron sights. But, the fiber optics on the S&W Perf Center models REALLY make it much easier to shoot at my indoor range. I love these sights

yeah, I get that they DO have an advantage if you practice with them for more hits on targets, but those advantages suddenly slim down DRAMATICALLY when you're using it for close range self defense (and lets not kid ourselves, we're 99.999% likely to be involved in a shooting at under 4 yards than we are to need to track multiple targets at 15+ yards under rapid fire. I'm not saying that we should completely ignore that type of situation, but with everything being a trade off I don't see the mega advantage of a micro red dot on a micro compact meant for CCW when you suddenly make it this bulky thing when you're most likely never going to ever ever seen the advantages of it outside of a range)

I mean, if I was OWB'ing a full size I would CERTAINLY would use one or at least consider it, but not for a micro gun.

either way, I'm glad the fiber sites are good to go.. the ones on the regular shield have always been just "meh"

lol, that is true

one last question. Has the shield plus proven itself reliable by now? meaning are there any weird quirks that have cropped up as every new firearm happens (the 365 release was.....rough. to say the least) .... I'm kind of leaning towards the fact that the shield plus is nothing but a shield with a slightly widened grip and different mag, but I hate to be that early adopter who beta tests a gun when a new gun comes out and have glossed over any teething issues the shield plus might have had

I think you should be good these days. Beta period is already gone :D
You will probably experience "last round" loading problem, but it's not a big issue anymore if you are patient.;)

Everybody loves Shield Plus, not only members of this Forum. :)

FYI. I was one of those "bad guys", complaining on Plus model, just after it was released..

good to know.. being 9 months in I hadn't HEARD about any teething problems, but you never know.

Were there any teething issues? The only complaint I heard was spare magazines not being available but I never saw anyone complain about the gun being unreliable.

I tried loading a magazine for my P365 without using my Magula this weekend. If getting the last round in is a reliability issue the Shield Plus isn't the only gun to have it.
