Good Comparison of the M&P Shield and Ruger LC9.

I can see that if I had an Ruger LC9, getting a Shield might not be justified...

But the comparison I am waiting for is from people that have had the LC9 for sometime and how it actually compares out in the field with the Shield... right now I want to get a Shield but only because I would like to stay within Beretta or S&W... and based on the initial review it looks like the Shield is a very good alternative...

Sorry for the rambling... pretty sure I would pick a Shield if it was readily available locally... that would have been an impulse buy just based on the initial videos and feedback from folks... but in the back of my mind the question remains... Is the Shield a better alternative to the Ruger LC9? Looks like a a street price difference of about 80.00-100.00 between the two (Ruger being the less expensive of the two).

Please do add some input, I have an LC9 and i am eyeing the Shield. The LC9 is very practical to carry but the trigger on it is terrible. A very long trigger pull. If that Shield has a snappier trigger i will buy it in a heartbeat. If i put anymore than 50 rounds through my LC9 at the range in one outing my finger is killing me from hitting the trigger gaurd due to the recoil.

Local shop has the LC9s on sale for $299. Never been a big fan of ruger semiautos other than maybe their 22s. I'm going to look at the Shield, but already have a Kahr CM9. If it's not much bigger than my Kahr, will be sorely tempted.

Just shot my LC9 today and my finger is fine. Trigger is a bit long, but it's a self defense piece, not a range toy. At 10 yards, all the shots are grouped in a fist size circle. If i didn't have it, I'd consider the Shield, but i carry my LC9 in a pocket, and it's JUST the right size for that. Any bigger, and i couldn't pull it off. And the Shield is bigger. And that pic isn't a fair comparison with that laser on it.

shield

looks like the shield is about the same size as my kahr p9 which is a perfect fit for cc and a lifetime warranty with the smith

I wonder if Smith is producing it with an APEX type trigger or sticking with the gritty, soft reset of the M&P.
If not Apex might be gobbling up another gold mine market!

I think a road trip to Springfield might be in order. They always have product rentals and take off the range and ammo charge if you buy after you shoot it. I can't afford another gun right now but if it is that good..........

My wife has an LC9 and the recoil might be a little too much for her. I'd love to hear a comparison to see if the shield is more suitable.

I really hate smith&wesson...They always come out with their products after the market is flooded with competition...I bought a Sig P290 a few months ago because I felt it was the best bang for the buck...I love that little gun but man now smith tempts me for another new pistol....I may have to break down and buy the shield or i can wait until the .45 version comes out...

I like what I have read so far about the Shield. Looking for something striker fired in a slim configuration. Not sure if I want a 9mm or a .40 S&W but leaning toward the 9mm. Can't wait for some more info on this piece.

It is indeed. I lined up my wifes CW9 with the new shield and it matches in every dimension. The Kahr may be a bit lighter.

Does anyone know what the availability is for the Shield? I'm in Illinois and want both the 40 and 9. The gun shops either haven't heard of it or their distributors don't have them yet.

New Shield trigger

picked up a Shield yesterday after messing endlessly with my PF-9 Keltec trying to make it reliable. The trigger on the Shield is short and crisp. nothing like the LC-9 or the PF-9. The felt recoil is less than half the PF-9. Odrered a Phantom OWB holster for the Shield today. The Shield is a solid smooth operating little gun. My impression is that it won't pocket carry well due to weight. Very favorable impression of the Shield thus far.:)

I have had my Shield for two weeks and it is a fantastic firearm. One friend has a PF9 and another the LC9. I also have a Taurus 740 slim. All are similar in size. I did not like the trigger on the PF9 or the LC9 and that is coming from a revolver guy. On my semi-auto's I prefer the traditional DA/SA if they have a hammer. The Shield has an nice trigger and reset. In order of preference of the four I would go with the the Taurus since it has been ultra reliable and I have carried in my pocket comfortably. Next would be the Shield then LC9 and the PF9 last. The PF9 batters my finger so its trigger is worse than the LC9.

I purchased a 9mm Shield and have fired just short of 200 rds throught it so far with no malfunctions. It has a really good trigger with a nice reset. I have read everything available about it on the net, Utube etc and have not found one negative comment other than those who wish that it didn't have a safely which you can elect to use or not. There are several posts from those who have gotten rid of the above mentioned firearms in favor of the Shield. Apex already has a kit to make the trigger even nicer as well.

I measured and pocket tested all of them including the sig and nano, the lc9 is the only one that you can pocket carry. Moved up from lcp. It is still 3 or 4 ozs lighter that the shield and if you are looking for pocket carry, that is a deal breaker. The gun shoots to point of aim with laser, a good backup gun.

I finally got to hold a shield Nina and it felt much smoother to hold than my cs9d.

It did point a lil high when throwing it up on target compared to my cs9.

Sorry...no time behind a ruger 9.

From what I can tell based on the attached images, the ruger's trigger seems set further out than the shield.

I will get a shield when monies come available.

I am not holding my breath and it may be a Christmas present to myself.

I didn't care for a range session using another guy's LC9. Reminded me of a PM9. Of course, it didn't help that it experienced repeated light-strikes with 3-4 types of duty ammo. (The owner got rid of it after the problem persisted after being repaired by Ruger.)

I'm waiting to look at a Shield 9 when the LE distributor receives the LE models.

If it's smaller than my CS9, SW999c & G26's, it'll probably offer more of what I'd like to have in a diminutive 9mm belt gun and for pocket (holster) carry in some jackets ... and maybe some cargo shorts. Dunno.

I suspect it'll be a bit handier for those roles than a M&P 9c (I have the 40c), and will likely dull my desire to add a PPS 9 to my collection of smallish 9's. ;)
