I want to remove the safety from my shield. I see no point In a safety on a self defense pistol. Keep your finger off the trigger is as safe as it needs to be IMO. So does anyone make a drop in type pice that makes it were the gun can never be placed on safe?

With mine, it's harder to engage the safety than to disengage it.
I simply leave mine in the off position.

I don't recall anyone commercially making a device, but someone a couple months back made a shim that was thin enough to ride inside the slide, but kept the safety from being pushed upward.

I need to find that thread. I am left handed so if it were to be bumped on by accident it could be a serious issue if I needed it. I would rather have it disabled / removed than operational.

I really don't see the issue with the safety. Mine is so tight that it isn't going to engage with a bump...if it did, the force it would take for that "bump" would have me flying sideways like I was shot in a bad movie.

Why don't you just ignore it? Or better yet, buy a different pistol that doesn't have a safety. There could be issues if you remove the safety: functional, warranty, and possibly liability issues in court (if you ever use your gun and the opposing attorney portrays you as so reckless that you disabled a safety device on your gun.)

I was told by a certified SW armorer that the safety can be removed and the sear block changed. It may run you about $60 to do depending on what someone charges you for labor. A friend that teaches CCHG classes and shoots competitively also mentioned to me about the liability/legality issue and that you might have an issue with the prosecutor if you did in fact remove it (the safety). I might also recommend looking for a different carry pistol as this is what I am in the process of doing. I put money down on an M&P compact and have the same issue. I shouldn't have put the money down if I wasn't sure, but I did so now I am paying the price.

Why the issue with the compact? A safety is optional on the M&P compact models.

Due to me carrying it on my left side it is more subject to being bumped/ knocked one way or the other. I don't see it having a strong chance of happening but I choose not to chance my life on it.

As for the legality, I don't see that holding any water at all. They could attempt to fight it but there are too many guns without safety's for that to be a valid case.

I have a PF-9 but choose the shield over it because it's a better gun.

I don't want to rig it, I am looking for a professional type removal and replacement as stated above about a different sear.

I do appreciate the concerns on the legality but have no issue removing the safety and being judged by 12.

This is what I did. It is a foam rubber foot for the bottom of furniture. It is adhesive on one side so I stuck it to the safety lever after cutting it to size. I put a few hundred rounds through with it on there had no issues with it on.

I took it out though because I sent my Shield back to S&W because the white dot came off the front sight. Sure, I could have painted a dot on myself, but this an ongoing issue they need to resolve. The more complaints they receive, the sooner they will fix the problem.

Ask your gun shop if you switch your down payment to a different M&P 9c...one without a safety. (They do make one.) If you put money down on a used one, then ask them if you can either switch to a different used pistol, or have them order a new M&P 9c, without the safety.

I would try that before I would buy a pistol I didn't want. Worst case, if they won't, then buy it and put it up for sale here. It should sell pretty quickly.

I had ordered a 40c from a shop and it had a safety, they were more than happy to sell it to someone else and order me one without a safety!

Deactivating the safety and leaving the lever in place looks like a recipe for an accident to me when the pistol is handled by someone not familiar with the modification. I'd prefer a solution that simply locks the lever in the "fire" position. (similar to what SoleShtr did above)

The safety holds the sear pin in place, so you don't want to remove it. It is easily disabled however. Here is a utube video. M&P Shield Manual Safety Removal - YouTube

I disagree. If you are left handed and are concerned about the safety I would fix it the way that satisfied your needs or better yet, you may look at a different model firearm. There are lot's of great options out there. I love my Shield but my Kahr PM9 gets carried far more often.

I am S&W through and through. I carry a sig 229 at work, but that's cus that's what they give me. I would cary a full size M&P if I could.

I feel that with the tab removed like in the first video there will be no issue with it in the up or down position. But as I originally stated, I was really looking for a mass produced safety removal that is company backed. But after the video I feel the removal of the tab will be just fine.
