I never saw this mentioned anywhere by anyone including S&W.

But My Shield (9mm) does seem to have a tactile loaded chamber indicator in addition to the visual loaded chamber window on top of the slide.

This tactile LCI (Loaded Chamber Indicator) is quite similar to the one on the Glocks just less obvious. The extractor hook protrudes ever so slightly from the side of the slide when a round is chambered. It is just enough to feel with your finger. It will feel more flush to a very very slight recess when the camber is empty.

Not sure if this is just my Shield or my choice of carry ammo (Gold dot 124gr +p) or if all shields do this.

Just checked mine. There is a slight difference when loaded and unloaded. Never noticed it before, not quite as protruding as an actual LCI. Don't know how useful, but interesting.

Not useful at all. Groping around for a little bump when you should be treating all guns as if loaded (Rule #1) is not tantamount to safety.

What did we do all those years when loaded chamber indicators didn't exist? Just lucky I guess...

Yeah... Similar to, but not quite as easy to feel as the Glock extractor. But then... I never considered (or treated) my Glock's extractor an LCI either.

I guess any brand's extractor could be considered a 'Tactile LCI', as they all stick out (or up) just a bit when a round is chambered. Some just stick up/out a bit more than others.

The tiny difference in the "bump' I feel on any pistol that claims the extractor is also a loaded chamber indicator is simply not an effective LCI for me.
