Hello. Interested in input from experienced Shield owners who have tried or used either or both of the grips noted in the subject of this thread. Thanks in advance! Best Regards, Ed

Probably depends on what you are looking for. I have never used the Hand All but I believe it will add thickness to the grip area.

I have used the Talon grips, on my Shield, Glock 43 and a Glock 19, and love them. I would go with the less textured version because the sandpaper one is pretty rough against the skin/clothes.

The main complaint with them is that they don't stick like they should at times but I have never had that issue with mine.

Talon Grip is much better in my experience with my Shield 9. It installs easily, stays in place even after many holsterings and range outings in all kinds of weather and provides just the right grip (I got the rubber textured ones, not the granular ones which some say are too rough). I also put them on my M&P Bodyguard 380.

If you are only looking to improve a range gun (which a Shield really is not), the Hogue will work OK if that's what you want. The grip feels good and of course is bigger. This is good for improved grip on a single stack, but most people buy single stacks to BE thin, so why make them thick?

My experience with a few Handalls is that eventually they slip down the grip and interfere with mag insertion. Had this happen three times in different IDPA matches over a year or so before I wised up and stopped using them.

ETA: I am guilty of "smacking" my mags home in competition and self defense practice. If the Handall grip can move, and it can, it will. If you just shoot at the range and in a very deliberate and controlled manner insert your mags, the Handall will not move.

As well, for concealed carry, I found the rubber grip to be very tacky and to grab covering garments, which for me was not desirable. I also did not like the finger grooves influencing my grip.

The Talons have been great. Eventually they will start peeling. Just replace them. I don't buy the aggressive rubberized ones for the same reason as above--they can interfere with covering garments.

ETA 2: The Hogue Beavertail feature may be comfortable, but it slightly pushes your hand lower on the grip. The highest grip possible is helpful for controlling recoil flip. This is a personal comfort preference and not a big deal--just another thing to consider.

I just installed a hogue on my shield. I have to say, what CB3 says is likely sound advise. Would have been nice to read that last week.

I installed the newest Hogue beaver tail version designed for the Sheild 9/40 . I could not get comfortable with where the finger bump was on the grip . I have some Talons ready to go on. Plus Hogue takes some real effort to get on .

Haven't tried Hogue, but the Talon grip makes my Shield feel like a whole new gun - in a good way.

Grip Decision

Thanks very much to all who posted their experience...Yes, I have been concerned about possible slippage with the Hogues. That said, I was concerned that the subject would not make sense because the doggone autocorrect feature changed and used "lt" instead of the term "Jr." originally submitted. Anyway, your replies are very appreciated. Best regards, Ed

In response to slippage as I said they were very hard to put on I don't think slippage would be an issue. What bugged me the most was the finger bumps on the grip.

I had talon grips in different arms but I like hogues grip better, I currently have one on my FS 9mm and recently added one to my shield. I love it, the grip is much better now.

I have Talons on 3 handguns. I tried the Hogue Hand All on one, I think it was the Gen 2 Glock 17. Didn't like it. Very difficult to install. Wouldn't stay in place. Made the grip too big and bulky.

The Talons on my Shield are great. Non slip grip without any added bulk. After 3 ½ years, and 2200 rounds, still in place. Go with Talons, you won't be disappointed.

I have to put my vote in for the Hogue Beavertail grip. When I first got it I thought this thing is never going to go on, it's too small. It does take a little effort, and placing it in hot water for a couple of minutes, but once you get the knack of installing it, it's well worth it.
I wanted something that looked good, and something that gave me a little more to grab on with the Shield. I've seen too many pictures of Shields with Talons that just looked bad because of the seam where they overlap the back of the grip. I've also heard of way too many people saying that the Talons eventually start pealing because of that seam.
It does not slide down once installed. In fact since putting it on my Shield I have shot quite a few rounds and it hasn't moved at all, and it does not interfere with the magazine at all. It adds a little needed girth to the narrow grip of the Shield and it looks like it was something that the Shield came with from the factory. I can't say enough good about the Hogue Beavertail grip.

+1 to Talon Grips. I don't have one on my shield yet, and not sure I'll need one as the grip suits me just fine for now. However on my SD9VE, I had to get one because that grip is like shards of glass! After 2 clips on the initial range visit my right hard was all red and just hurt like a mother!

Now that I put the Talon Grip on, it's a 100 zillion times better.

Been very happy with the Talon grips. I have them on 5 of my handguns and the grip is much improved without adding extra width.

the talons are great, I have them on my shield but I also have a pachmyr sleeve on it. Once I fattened up the grip a little bit I started shooting
much more accurately. With the Talon rubber underneath it the sleeve moves very little, even after shooting 150 rounds at a time with it.
I EDC a 9C and an XDM 3.9C .45 as well so even with the sleeve on my shield feels paper thin to me compared to my other 2 pieces.

Holy Smokes! Worked harder getting the HandAll It grip on the Shield than I did all day at the mill, however, I'm satisfied with the feel of the grip and the placements of the shots, finally. Thanks for the information.

I just tried the Hogues. Had them on for 2 days and took them off. Made the single stack gun feel almost as big as a double stack (in which case I will take the extra rounds). I have either Talon grips or Traction grips on most of my guns. Soon they will be on my 3rd Shield too.
