Shield with Grip Safety

I don't know for certain, but I know that a lot of 1911 style pistol competition shooters have the grip safety on their pistol pinned so that it stays in the down position all of the time.

Perhaps this could be done on the Shield, but remember you are deactivating a safety device, so be careful if you decide to do this.

If you pin it down you won’t be able to install the slide since the lever that removes the firing pin block gets in the way. The grip safety being pushed removes two safety interlocks.

Forgot about that. There are several threads about the gun getting jammed up when disassembly is attempted with the grip safety depressed.

Perhaps the OP with be better served with a Ruger Security 9 or 380.

Agree with previous comments. If it truly bugs you then you might be better served with a different weapon. What is the issue you have with the grip safety? I bought an EZ for my wife and that safety was, to me, a very positive feature. We’ve burned a ton of ammo through hers with zero issues. Added a CT laser. If you hold the weapon in a firing grip the safety is always off and the laser is on. I believe it’s a lot safer than the “flipper in the trigger” that most modern plastic pistols rely on. I’m always amazed at the folks who cringe at a cocked and locked 1911 and then turn around and cheerfully stuff a cocked ( or half cocked) and UNLOCKED pistol down the front of their pants.. But hey, I’m old
