I admit I haven’t been paying attention, and subject may have been covered elsewhere on the forum, but what is special about Shield X? Other than some cosmetics I don’t see much different.

I am a fan of the Shield platform and have one in every caliber except 40SW. So, not knocking it just looking for info.

I have a Shield X and also have a Shield Plus.

The X has a longer 3.6” barrel and optic cut slide. It has a revamped grip and beaver tail that in my opinion is better. It has Ameriglo Trooper iron sights from the factory. I had to replace the ****ty white dot sights on my Shield Plus which was another $100.

And last but not least, the flush fit 13 round mag and extended 15 round mag fit without pinching your pinkie.

If you have a Plus and are happy with it, cool. I like the revisions made and it was worth the cost.

I **Think** the grip profile, other than just length, is also different. It looks like it’s a tad bit shallower front to back.
I’m waiting on the comp version of the X…but does anyone know if the standard plus 13 or 15 round mags will fit in the X?

I held an X and a Plus CC back-to-back in a gun store. The X grip felt slimmer in circumference. The X also had the more rounded Performance Center striker block while the CC did not. No idea about the mag compatibility.

IMO, the slimmer grip is probably about marketing. I took a tiny 5'1" friend shooting, and she thought that my Shield Plus was plenty manageable. In fact, she said that she didn't think she felt any more recoil with the Shield than my 2.0 Compact. Best I can figure is she was able to get a more secure wrap around hold on the Shield's smaller grip.

The thinner grip definitely made a big difference for me as it fits my hand more naturally. I'm happy with what Smith & Wesson is doing with their pistols.
