Well thanks to this forum I finally found a 13-2 (1980ish) at a good price. It did not have factory grips, so I got those here as well from iraIII (thanks). They are a fraction (width of a fingernail) too big, but that's better than too small - I could fit them some time down the road. No box or anything else.

Oh, did I mention it is now shiny:cool: First nickel and it was a bit on the dirty side, but the price was right. I obviously took it all apart, a tad of Flitz & Ren Wax in addition to cleaning up the innards. It's been shot, (you can see that on the hammer and trigger), but is pretty tight and minimal wear. Pretty happy with it really, needed to tone some of the pictures down I guess - toooo much glare!:D

And... I'm presuming these are bargain basement Herrett's on it of minimal value? (last picture)

Yep,those look like Herret's to me.The standard stocks look good and the revolver is gorgeous.Just throw on a grip adaptor and fire away.:)

Thanks Stu, have not done a Tyler t-grip yet, but may have to. Will see how it feels like this. But if it's like my 28's & 27's, with magna's (I like targets on the N's), I'll give the the adapter a try. To me targets don't look right on the 13's.

Kind of liking the fixed sights and the matte on the topstrap. Poor boys 520 I guess.

The grips are Herrett's; I doubt the odd "checkering" is.

I'd put Pachmayr Presentation grips on it. They feel wonderful in my hand and don't get scratched up in use like wood can. Handle recoil better, too. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Herrett's calls that "skip-line" checkering. The Herrett's look great to me, much better than Magna's & one of those butt-ugly grip adapters.

Agreed. Those are all Herrett's, including the skip style checkering. They're nice stocks, definitely not bargain basement.

Well, I was not liking them, but if they get this much praise, I may have to think about keeping them around. Any idea as to worth? Might have made an even better deal than anticipated.

If I were selling them, I'd list them for $50 and see what happens. I would guesstimate they'd sell between $40-$50. They appear to be in great shape.

I reckon I'll keep them. Made me think... I've got a 14-3 with some off brand something on them with a curved bottom. Who did that. Anyway, they're on the 14 for now, flat bottom should help the 8 3/8" from a bench.

Very nice looking gun and grips. Wear on the hammer and trigger are not a good indication of a gun having been fired. I have seen what I believe to be guns never fired post-factory but with a fair amount of wear from incessant dry firing.

I have a pair of the same Herrett's but with smooth finish. To make them fit my hand, I trimmed the back to expose the backstrap, and they've become my favorite aftermarket stocks. Give it some thought.

My thoughts exactly...........& the curve of a S&W backstrap makes it point high, the shape of those Herrett's stocks helps some.
