I mounted a red dot on my 15-22 and took it to the range. I need something more stable than the cable reels provided for shooting rests. I have a Caldwell rifle rest, but I'm looking for something portable to rest it on. Have any of you had any experience with the Timber Creek Shooting Bench sold by Walmart? It is an online order item not stocked by our local store, so I have only seen a picture. The sale price of $79 is attractive if it is sturdy enough -- and large enough. The Caldwell unit needs 24" front-to-back, and I don't see the table size listed for the Timber Creek bench.

I don't have one but based on what I see in the listing I'd say there's no way it would be acceptable. I've built a couple smallish benches and know how much steel I had welded in and triangulated to adequately take out the "wiggles". My thought would be to do some work on your existing cable reel(s) to add some stability. Filling the center of the reel with cement comes to mind... should make for a nice bench...

Caldwell Stable Table

I considered the Caldwell Stable Table, because it looks really sturdy. I guess the price is reasonable, but a bit higher than I wanted to spend. However, all of the less expensive ones are either too small or have less stable legs/frames. But I don't want to make the mistake of buying a cheap one and then buying twice to get a usable one. I've done that before.

I bought my Stable Table from Amazon for $204 w/free shipping last summer.

When all fasteners are tightened is a stable shooting platform, swivels in all directions, they include a 1 gun rack for holding the weapon, and the table is large enough for light repair work.

It isn't as sturdy as a 4 legged, wooden picnic table, but it's a mobile shooting platform if you gotz the muscle to lug it around. Weighs something like 60 lbs and make sure to pay the extra for the bag.

But, reason I bought mine was because of the swivel feature and it fits into my F-150's bed perfectly. A highly mobile shooting platform.

Only complaint I have is Caldwell should have designed it with a place to attach an umbrella.

Mine is set up in my basement now that it's winter. I've got a 90' area where I can shoot my .22's down there, but it's colder than my Ex's heart.

What a coincidence!
I just received the exact same table that you are talking about.
I too was a little concerned about the construction. I am in the 250(ish) pound range and didn't know if it would be any good for me. It goes together just like they say it will...take it out of the bag and in less than 90 seconds, it was up and ready to go (in my basement.) It comes with a functional carry bag and it seems to be well made and sturdy. Time on the uneven surface of the range will be the test. But then again, any bench/table really needs a flat surface to be really solid. Big enough? That depends on what you need for room. There seems to be more than enough room for me on my non-shooting side (weak hand side) of the table, and I too like to have some "stuff" with me when I'm sighting in and what not.
From what I've seen, it's a steal at that price. I like the swiveling, roller support too. The seat has much more padding than you can see or tell based on the pictures on line.
