The discussion of "Which Chronograph?" got me to thinking .. .

What happened to Shooting Chrony? The interwebs are oddly silent about what caused them to shut down.

Does anyone have any insight?

It is irksome for me because I won a certificate for a free one years ago but lost the certificate. It finally turns up and the company is out of business.

Who knows? I'd note that they had a Canadian business model and an out-dated product that they never really enhanced in over 30 years. My final one just finally died over the summer and . . . well, thanks for your service; it was fun while it lasted.

All I know is that they went out of business years ago. I have one of their old, F1 models, the one that is red in color. It still works, but if something happens to it, I'll have to get another chronograph.

What is a Canadian business model?

What I mean is that they appeared somewhat lackadaisical in their dealings - at least in the dealings I've had with the company. Without disrespect intended to our Canadian friends (and there are many wonderful things about Canada - probably as many wonderful things as there are about our own USA), I've spent a bit of time up there and during that time every one of my business dealings reminded me pretty much exactly of my business dealings in Mexico. (I jokingly told my wife that Canada is like Mexico except they speak English (and French) and you can drink the water anywhere I've been in Their Home and Native Land.)
YMMV - I was just giving my opinion. I probably shouldn't have said anything at all in response to your question - as I indicated, I doubt anyone here can give a detailed and complete explanation of what happened to the business.
Anyone else here own one of the original "shoot thru the holes in the cardboard" models they sold in the Eighties?

I just find it really strange that none of the gun rags commented on Shooting Chrony going Tango Uniform.

I have used, and still use it, a Pro Chrono Digital for many years. Use it to develop new loads. Have never shot it. For hot loads I set it up about 15 feet from the muzzle to eliminate the shock wave effect and get consistent results.

I have the Gamma Master with the remote reader and printer. It’s a good unit with many features. However, I found the unit to be very finicky and the software clunky and outdated - simples functions required deep dives into the menus. Because of those issues, it was unreliable for me.

I now have a Chrony Beta. Remote data readings and it does all the statistics calculations. I have experienced no problems and it does everything I need. Too bad the maker is now out of business.

I had the early very basic Chrony unit until I put a bullet through it. At the time I bought it, the manufacturer offered a large price discount on a replacement unit if you destroyed yours. I guess that is no longer available.

That would be correct!

Yes, I still own a old F-1. I haven't shot anything through it for a while though.

I have the green Chrony Master Beta (joke intended...) and it's like this. I give them credit for building a unit that would indeed reliably capture the speed of a shot. If I'm searching for more positives then hey, four stars for a unit that packs up kinda compact, nice.

That's where the praise ends. This unit was a fun sucker. Limited to ten shot strings and a small computer that had the ability to launch Apollo 11 but had the most horrific user-end control. Clicky buttons only. The hand held Coleco Football game had three times as many input controls.

I finally replaced it with a ProChrono DLX and the difference is night and eight weeks later. Everything that it's capable of shoots instantly to my phone via Bluetooth.

There is nothing about the Chrony that I will ever miss.
