Looks like the short round didn't have enough of a crimp. If Winchester has a contact number you may want to call them, the deep seated round may cause higher pressure when firing and they may want to investigate.

I found a contact number on their site a couple months ago for a problem but had to dig for it - look under faqs in learning center & dig around a bit

I guess that now that the ammo Co's are packaging in bulk boxes the inspection process will suffer.

All things considered, I think Winchester is pretty descent quality ammo as is the Federal. The Remington brand however leaves a lot to be desired IMHO.

All ammomakers have dropped their QC a notch or three.

Especially it seems the stuff they flog out through WalMart. Wally can sell everything they put out and does not take returns or complaints on ammo. Once the MBA's figured that out they cackled with glee and proceeded to increase profits.

I have even seen bad batches of premium ammo. Buy one lot number and test in _your_ gun, then stock up.

I sent winchester the same picture i put here wednesday
and no response from them

Good reason to examine every round you shoot.

I don't really blame lack of QC for this kind of stuff. Having handloaded 10's of thousands of rounds in the past 45 years, I had a few that made it to the range before discovering a defect.

How many bullets do they make a year? Probably in the millions. Cant examine all bullets in all the boxes. Would take too long and some one here would cry that they are too expansive (gotta pay someone or more like many people to check all that) and that there is always a shortage (takes time to check all those bullets). Heck, we cry that there is a shortage now. And most likely the QC didnt drop notch or three but 20 years ago or even before, there was no internet forums for Bob in Blue Balls Pa to go onto and tell the whole world about his bullet.

As always check your stuff.

they can be checked as they make them
the machine can self check.
there was almost 1/8 of an inch difference

Right. They sort apples closer than that at the local packing house.

Optical inspection on the fly can be done at amazing speeds.

You might want to check the other rounds in that box to see if they will push into the case. Setback when you're shooting is not a good thing!
