I recently took a defensive shotgun course. My instructor didn't fit the normal "tactical" profile and was actually quite a jovial and avuncular fellow. Although i wanted to use a pump for the course, the instructor informed me that all I needed was a double barreled shotgun. I asked why an extra 2,3 or 4 rounds would not be a better idea and he told me that I wouldn't need them. All I had to do was empty both barrels in the air and the threat would leave. I then asked him, well, what if the threat can see it's a double barrel shotgun and now knows I'm holding an empty gun? At this point he pulled me aside in the class, handed me back my check, and told me to leave quietly. Guess I'll look for a new instructor.

I have read that if you have a pump all you have to do is jack in a shell and the bad guys will leave. Confuscious (spelling) said: Shooting in air in house will make roof leak.:D Larry

A former police officer told me that he put a pistol grip on the forestock of his 870. He had to take it off because it was too quiet. He said the gun wasn't as loud when he cycled a shell as it was before the pistol grip. He said it was all about the sound of the shell being cycled.

Today on fox news, the five had bob beckle on. He was talking about shotguns and said something about "putting bullets in shotguns!". How do I go about getting a job as a "expert" on fox news?

I like my DB - it is the Russian one imported by remington for a few years. It has the cocking hammers on it and a thumb safety to boot. I wanted the hammers bec I wanted an extra level of safety. I had a leather butt stock ammo carrier made for it so I have 2 + 4 extra ready to go.
It's real easy to maneuver it around tight areas or small spaces - like a van or a tent. No worries about short-stroking.

Maybe he was the NEW PC correct trainer for firearms.
Teaching students to fire their only two rounds off for
a scare tactic ????
What's next a revolver instructor who teaches you to
immediately open the cylinder and spin it a few times
to impress your opponent ?? Glad you got away from that
one Sip.

Chuck

I wonder if he meant a double barrel like mine. It's so scary I had to pay extra tax for it, which probably means its excellent for scaring away bad guys...

Thankfully I now know I don't have to actually shoot them, cause I don't think it would be the most effective thing out there.

I don't think of myself as a bad guy, but I assure you if anyone leveled that scatter gun in my direction they would get my attention in a hot second.

That is scary that this guy is "teaching" this nonsense! It
sounds like you narrowly avoided an utter waste of your time.
I guess as long as the BG's have seen the recent comments
from our government about home safety & know they are
supposed to run away, you'll be alright.

I took a defensive course and pumps were all that were allowed. The instructor trains swat teams and was top notch. After two and a half hours of shooting I was just about worn out!

I kept waiting for one of the tactical shotgun makers to splice in Uncle Joe's comments into a commercial. "All you need is a shotgun..."
I can just see the new 870 ad..."If it's good enough for Uncle Joe, it must be good enough for you..." :D Or "Uncle Joe approved...."
Plus the "Uncle Joe" loads... I'm sorry but I just about laughted my backside off listening to that....thinking well, he's got the shotgun lobby wrapped up

James Bond took out an entire tactical team with his dad's Double Barrel in his latest movie Skyfall. So of course it can be done! Uncle Joe must have seen the movie.

It's bringin' on those doggone meteors! Stuff fallin' out of the sky, knockin' holes in the carport....messin' up the patio furniture. Oh yeah, I walk outside, there's another dead seagull...yep, ol' Joe's at it again...sky's so full of holes the airs all gettin' sucked off inta space...atmuspheres goin' flat...
