I have owned the DPMS, Sig 716 (not the Tred) and one prior M&P 10 18 inch. I shot my buddies DPMS SASS as well. All of these guns shot fine. I didn't part with my first M&P 10 by choice, going out of marriage sale... Nuff said. I traded my Sig 716 even for for a brand new 18 inch M&P 10. The reasons were, 18 inch barrel, melonite treatment, R5 rifling, it's lighter, how accurate my first M&P was and the barrel profile. The profile is heavier at the chamber to the gas block and thinner from the gas block to the muscle. I haven't had any point of impact shift when the barrel heats up. I don't like the clamp on gas block and I may have a gunsmith drill and pin the gas block later. So far my old M&P 10 and this one have had no issues with the gas block moving but that is just me being a Fud I guess. I have an AGL ACT and a Timmany trigger but the factory is very smooth already. The pull weight is fine for me. It shoots 150 grn NATO M80 surplus just fine and its chambered in .308 Winchester not 7.62 x 51. .308 Win has higher chamber pressures so you can shoot both. It is not too fond of M118 LC Match. The 1 in 10 twist is a bit too fast for the 175 grn bullet, I'd say 168 grn is the heaviest bullet
it can stabilize. This is not a "sniper rifle". If I need more accuracy, I have a Remington 700 LTR in .308. I don't reload so I'm pretty much stuck with factory ammo. I build AR 15s and use a lot of Areo parts, you may want to look at them as well. If price is no object, HK or another high end rifle will surely work. My personal experience brought me back to the S&W M&P 10. Only you can tell what's best for you.
