Should I Refinish My Grips?

Years ago I replaced the grips on two revolvers that I have. Both are round butt. One is a K-Frame, model 65, the other is a J-Frame, model 34. The original grips have been in a drawer for a lot of years.

The original grips are now starting to sort-of "fade." The wood looks a little chalky, and like it's been out in the sun too long (though they have NOT been in the sun).

So now I'm wondering if I should put a little wood oil on them, to revive the grain and original appearance. Or will that reduce their value? Appreciate any opinions.

A light coat of finger tip applied tung oil will “wake” them up. Stay away from the checkering. A q-tip with a bit of food grade mineral oil will restore the checkering and provide a fresh look. Other solutions are many.

A good wax may help and extra fine (white) Scotch-Brite pads can be used to buff them. Especially for my owns guns, I have no problem touching up or completely refinishing my stocks if the gun requires them to look better than they are if kept original.

White pads, tung oil, and Ren Wax will restore even 100+ year old stocks. Only set that didn't wake up were on a 70's mdl. 36 that had been drowned in oil and stored away. They were soft from the oil, and now put away for historic purposes only.
