The tiny grips on the newer Classic 4" mod 21 44 spl. are good looking but not very functional. I am sure any one who uses one of these for a shooter has re-griped in some way. I was kinda leaning toward a RB boot grip but think that may still be to small. What do you think, do these require full size or conversion to SB grips to shoot comfortably and point well ? SHOW ME WHAT YA GOT. I need pictures to visualize.

It's a K frame, but you get the idea. These are Ahrends. $60 at Top Gun Supply

Not sure what comes on the 21 now, but mine came with these Ahrend's grips. I found no need to change them, and it does get shot regularly. I put similar ones on any RB N frame that comes my way.

If you like Square Butt conversions these are also from Ahrend's.

Have you been able to shoot both grooved (like mine) and smooth Ahrends? If so, how do the smooths compared to the grooved?

I might go with smooth RB Ahrends like yours to replace the RB combats on my 29-3, which do not fit me very well.

BTW, this is what the latest rendition of the 21 looked like (it also came all blued and all nickeled):

Mine came equipped with these which looks good but when I shoot it I use pachmayrs. They are not pretty but comfortable with stiff loads.

YUP , Wyatt and deanodog those small roundbutts are what I'm faced with. Any opinion about boot grips on that big ole sixgun.

Here are a couple that work nicely for me:

A 29-4 RSR Special

A 25-2 Jovino

Both Kim Ahrends and Craig Spegel make boots for N frames. Both are top quality. Ahrends are less expensive.

Still, the full size Ahrend grip is still extremely concealable and offers a better purchase on the gun. They also work VERY well in taming magnum recoil (I know yours is a Special, but still).

I will be shortly placing for sale in the classifieds a ser of grips just like these but checkered and with medallions. They do not fit my hand and actually cut me in recoil. They would work OK for someone with big hands though.

Those might do the trick. I tried some Late 80's combats but they were to clunky and did not point well.

I'm very partial to Ahrend's smooth combat grips. I've got small hands and they fit me just right, and are good for carry too. I put them on all my N frames. Here's a pic of a RB Classic 21-4 with those grips, but it's not my gun.

I have several sets of Ahrends grips. Smooth wood just doesn't work for me...if I need to shoot or carry. They look great in pictures, but that's about it.

Try Trausch Grips. They're a bit large, but are comfortable.

He sent me a set and I like them. They were a bit large for my hand, but a razor blade took care of that.

Wyatt; I haven't tried the Ahrend's finger groove grips. My fingers are usually cramped or just feel weird in the other brands I've tried so I stay away from them. The smooth Ahrend's have a flat front edge that seems to line up right every time I grip the gun. Those grips on the newer 21s look nice, but I can see how they'd be very uncomfortable to use: Way too small.

The nickle and the case hardened 21s look great.

Thanks. The grooved Ahrends are the same way, with the flat front. Of all the grooved grips I've tried, Ahrends fit the best, but that is a personal thing.

I'm thinking I'm gonna buy a set of smooth RB Ahrends for my 3" 29-3.

They have lots more styles. The Round to Square conversion types should give you a bit more size.

Herrtets would be a good option, too, and I know there's lots of folks here who have pcis of 'em.

One can equip two revolvers with Ahrends grips for the price of one Nill and most often have change back.

The $/Euro rate has made Nills cost more than they are worth.

The correct answer is very much dependent on hand size. For my hand, a Tyler with the factory grips would probably be best, although Goodyears by Hogue would be excellent, also. For larger hands, I just don't know - probably one of the answers already posted.

See if you can find some grips to try before you buy.

Good luck!
