Anyone out there have a Carfax (or similar) account that could run a number for me and give me the report?

I can't justify the $30 right now.

Thanks.

I'm looking to run mine. It wasn't an issue (not as well known a service) when I bought it, but I'd like to know before I sell it.

I figured someone would have the unlimited membership and could run it.
See post #3 about getting a buyer to run it... ;)

Just a note, you do realize that you're soliciting in a public forum to ask someone to circumvent the terms of their use agreement with car fax, which is very likely a legal issue... I'd imagine the LEO and Lawyers on this board can address this far more than myself.

Last time I wanted one I paid for it myself. It did me little good, as it said the car I was looking at was involved in an accident, but that was all, didn't say what part of the vehicle was "involved" or anything else of any use to me. When I inquired about the "accident" the current owner had no idea what I was talking about... A waste of $30.00 & just one more so called "Service" that I can do without.

The problem with carfax is that it is like the honor system. No one who is selling a car is going to add all the bad stuff someone else can look up to further haggle down the price or turn away a potential buyer. It would be like someone having a Smith revolver and then putting it in record that you had to replace the internals due to issues and that the accuracy is bad.

Carfax and other info agencies like it are only as good as info reported to them. Not every repair outlet reports to them. I was thinking the other night, there's gonna be a lot of "flood cars" on the used market this fall.

I bought the service for a used car for my son. No reported repairs. Then, with a few free searches, I ran one for my wife’s car that was in an accident & repaired several months prior. No reported repairs.

If it is a used car that you have owned and operated for several years, it is what it is. If you know of no issues with it, state that. Price it with its condition in mind and sell it.

If you are having problems with it and try to hide behind a "clean" car fax, things will likely not go well for you.

Car is pretty decent. It is 10 years old. It's had some repairs and parts replaced. Nothing unusual.
The CarFax came back clean. Says I'm the second owner. It was a lease return and sold at auction, where it made it to my dealer.

I just wanted to be sure there wasn't something wierd out there, as I bought it used, and i get slapped with "There is a record of this car being crashed...we will only give you 1/2 the value, etc..."

Thanks to Gary for the help!
