Sideplate blemish 657-2

Rec'd this gun on a trade online. Original purchaser told me when he bought it new early 90's that it had this blemish. Has anyone else experienced this on a new gun from S&W.

But most importantly can it be fixed?

i have a 629 with a little wrinkle in the same spot. i have seen others with the same problem and most were stainless guns. don't mess with it too much, it's not worth the bother.

Never owned a stainless S&W before, but from what I've been reading/hearing this issue seems be a not so uncommon issue in S&W stainless revolvers.
