All,

Has anyone had experience with the sig 522? I'm thinking of picking one up, and hoped the board could chime in on reliability, accuracy, etc. The one I looked at seemed well made, but I have not heard much about them anywhere. Thanks.

Coolest one out there! More expensive because it comes
with no sights. Super accurate---totally reliable--in 1500
rds--I have had 4 "duds" (failure to fire with strong firing
pin hits.) It shoots EVERYTHING I have fed it Win,Rem
Federal,Stingers, Vipers unlike some other makes---(no
OOBs or extractor flyoffs either) A LOT LESS plastic! Pete
The coolest "fold up" package going!

they are nice, check the sig forums or do a sig 522 search on youtube/google/yahoo, there is a ton of info on there. seeing as this is a S&W forum you probably wont get too much help here. ill shoot you a PM soon

Search Forums "Sig522" and sort by postings. You'll find quite a lot of commentary and comparison.

I have both, and they are both fine rifles, the Sig522 has a better trigger, but again you can always put a 2 stage ar trigger on mp15-22,accuracy they are the same, reliablity so far they are both fine, the sig522 has a funky Bolt carrier Assembly, they use this e-clips and the mags that came with the 522 is very tight i mean tight, i had to use my dremel and sand paper to make it usable but called sig and the replacement mags is in the mail + some e-clips, 522 accepts Black dog mags, MP15-22 is only through smith unless i'm mistaken, what else, sig522 is heavier, feels like their 556 line, my 15-22 came with a flash hider and a magpul sights so i'm not complaining on that one..here is a picture of both..

I have been researching the 522 since this time last year. I purchased the M&P15-22 because the 522 wasn't being released. I have had my 15-22 for about 3 months and love it. Having said that, as soon as SIG releases a compliant version (NJ) I will be buying it also.

From what I have seen and read the 522 does not have most of the problems that seem inherent in some of the 15-22's. One of the factory issues has been the front sight mount / fake gas block has been canted to the side a couple of degrees on some rifles. SIG has been addressing this issue to the satisfaction of the owner.

All accounts I have read report excellent mechanical functioning as well as good fit and finish.

I don't think you can go wrong with a 522. Price seems to be on a par with the 15-22.

Thanks for all the replies. I really wanted a 15-22 when they first came out, but after some research....you know the rest. The 522 has flown under the radar, but a local shop has one in and it looked nice and solid. Thanks again!

I am bouncing back and forth on the 15-22 or the SIG522 also. I have only found reports of two issues with the SIG, magazine problems as someone else said, and with the recoil spring assembly. The magazine problems are easily fixed or you can get the Black Dog magazines, as far as I could find out they work. If you are buying a new 522, it is possible that it will not have the "old style" recoils spring assembly. If it does you can call SIG and they will send you the new style parts. Here is a link to the problem and the fix: Sig 522 E-Clip failures ***THIS IS THE FIX*** - Topic Powered by Social Strata . You will also find several 522 posts so you can gather more information.

I have them both; love them both. The 522 will cycle ANY .22 ammo. I even fed it 20 y.o. Rem-Junk. The 522 and the 15-22 both have their strong points, and draw bracks. I would buy them both again, though.

This thread is a killer... It was a toss up for me between the 522 and the 15-22. I went with the 15-22 because I liked how closely it emulated the AR15's handling but was very tempted by the 522. Plus the 522 was less expensive! Reading this thread does make me want to go back and buy it as well! grrrr!! haha

I know the feeling... I gave up and bought one recently. Here's a pic out of the box, and with MBUS, AFG and a red dot.

I found a sweet deal on a NIB one a guy had second thoughts on; I'll pick it up tomorrow. I'm still debating how to sneak it passed the wife.....

They look a lot alike maybe she won't notice:D

My wife thinks she is slick when she brings home something for the house and then say we have had it for years.. but she should really spend more time looking at what's in the safe lol

I figured you were fixin to add one when you said you had a 'toy' on the way. I think you'll really like it. No gripes with the 522 other than it's heavy.

You're lucky you don't have to sleep in that safe... well... it's big enough so I guess you could :D

I was working in the basement a while back and had the safe door open. The wife snuck (sneaked for your purists) down the stairs and caught me off guard. She was pretty upset when she found 29 Garands in the safe. Afterall, they all do look the same so getting new ones in the house was fairly easy! She pays better attention now.
