Sight Tool Recomendation

That first one is fantastic if you're only doing M&P's (or enough of them to justify a special tool) or if setup is something your trying to avoid.

I went for a model similar to the one in the second post. I like the sight pusher piece better than ramming a threaded bolt through my sight channel.

An Affordable Pistol Sight Adjustment Tool

If you want a tool that is made just for M&P pistol then the MGW 180 sight tool is what you really need, yes they are expensive but if you end up paying a gunsmith $65 to replace your sights then they are not that bad a price and I have 7 M&P's and used the tool along with the M&P rear sight tool
M---P rear sight tool at Brownells to hold the Sear block cap and spring when changing sights about $2.98 plus shipping!

SEMI-AUTO SIGHT MOVER | Brownells

I have 3 M&Ps now and plan on getting at least two vtacs in the future and a 22cal M&P so even though my gunsmith only charges 15 to change them I figure I am in deep enough to make the tool a worthwhile purchase. Now I just have to figure out which one to get thanks for the recommendations I will take a look at each.

Whatever you decide I would highly recommend the Rear Sight tool by Talon available from Brownell's for less than five bucks plus shipping it will save you the heartache of trying to get the sear block spring and cap back into your M&P, mine took over and hour, and I started to go to the Gunsmith to fix my own messup, but with this cheap plastic tool that goes into the dovetail it is easy and fast!

I bought a Maryland Gun Works (MGW) M&P sight tool, aka a "sight pusher," which is the same one the OP is asking about. It can be used to move the front sight or the rear sight -- there is a small spacer plate to set it up right for whichever one you are doing. I have used it to swap out front sights, and to install Warren Tactical sights on the rear of my M&Ps.

The drawback of these is that they only work on one type of gun, e.g., mine is just for the M&P. This one does not work for the Shield, but I am thinking about hand-crafting a small plate that will allow it to work with the Shield (I'll bet the company eventually adds this capability to their product).

The MGW Sight Tool cost me around $120. (There is one on eBay right now for $119.00, at MGW Sight Adjustment Tool Pusher s w M P New | eBay).

I strongly recommend using a good quality sight pusher like one of these, over using a wood block or steel punch to remove or install sights. Used properly, it ensures there is no damage to the sight or the pistol. And it allows adjustments to the sights to get them dead on right.

In other words, if you are going to install (or adjust) one M&P sight, perhaps it is best to go to a gunsmith and pay. If you want to do it more often, buying a MGW sight pusher is a good purchase that might save you money as well as give you control of the process.

Full disclosure: I have no equity in MGW or any vendor selling MGW sight pushers.

a lot will depend on what you intend to do with it. if you just want to zero the gun, the newer models don't seem to need a pusher like the older ones. lots of them can be moved by hand when the set screw is loosened.

If you intend to change the front sight, then a pusher would be the best route to go. taking the oem one out is the hard part, fitting a new one in is easy and a pusher is not neceasary.
