Sigma 40 failed to fire. (trigger problem)

Hello all, I just joined and I know this has probably been brought up before. A while ago, I was at the range and I tried to fire my sigma and .... nothing. The trigger would not pull all the way. I unloaded it, put a cap in and proceeded to play around with it. I got it to fire by hitting the rear of the gun with my left hand while pulling the trigger with the right. I sent it to S a W and they sent it back saying they found nothing wrong. I took it apart and you can clearly see that they did some work inside. Looks like filing on the end of the sear and other spots. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I have fired it since and had no problems YET. Don't feel like I can trust it now if I "need" it. I have considered purchasing a new gun, Glock, Springfield. But because of the All Knowing politicians in the great state of CT. anything I buy now will be limited to 10 rounds. Has anyone else had reliability issues ? Thanks, Bill

I have had a few FtFire with my sd9ve , I blamed the ammo for awhile and I still think that ammo had hard primers but it continued so I changed out the striker and so far so good

I'd say shoot it a lot

SW40VE, Not your typical FTF. Not an ammo problem. Something mechanical with the sear or trigger. I pull the trigger all the way back but it never released the striker? If I hit the rear of the gun while squeezing the trigger, it would fire.

did the gun not go into full battery when it would not fire. when you hit the back of the slide the slide went into full battery so the gun could fire.

Wait! I think I misread your response. The slide was in the correct position, all the way forward. It was a problem with the trigger or internal workings.

Wait! I think I misread your response. The slide was in the correct position, all the way forward. It was a problem with the trigger or internal workings.

Couple of thoughts-

1. With the slide off, pull the trigger and try to see just how far the sear goes down as it rotates backwards.

2. With the slide on (Have snapcap if possible) try to peak in, using a flashlight, to see whether the sear lowers enough to release the striker.

There are available, or you can make, a special rear cover for the slide which lets you see clearly just how the sear moves and how far back and down it moves.

It sort of sounds like your sear just isn't going down enough to consistently release the striker.

Added observation. I just took another look at my SD9VE. There is a pretty large gap on/under the right side of the slide cover plate and, with a flashlight, you can see the interaction of the sear and the striker prong. Have a look.
