Sigma pointless rail slot

I have a SW9VE and everyone knows that it doesn't have an actual rail. It just has that pointless slot. Well, I am wanting to mount a light on my sigma and I don't want some rail adapter on there. I'm positive that years ago I saw a light that was specifically for that type of slot. Like an M4 or M6 Streamlight or something. Anyway, I am doing a lot of reading and research because I'm considering reshaping the slot to a picatinny rail. My two main concerns are one, weakening the structural integrity of the frame, and two, permanently ruining my frame in any other way. Ultimately, I'm looking into picking up a Sig P229 but until that day comes, I'd like to be able to have a mounted light on my sigma. Anyone have any light to shed on this topic?

Welcome to the forum!

You don't want a rail adaptor, so you're considering sawing on your gun's frame?

Think about that, amigo. :)

The Insight M4 was available for the Sigma's rail/slot. I fear you'll have difficulty finding one. There are several threads on this forum about lights for the Sigma - probably worth your time to run a search or two.

Thanks for the quick reply! Not so much sawing, but more shaping by file/sanding. I definitely am trying to do my research so that I don't have to modify the frame at all. I really don't want an adapter though. I'll look into all the threads I can find though. Thank you again.

My pleasure - best of luck with it. FWIW, I dropped an adaptor onto mine, and have taken it off and put it on as I felt the urge.

Given my experience with such things, I'd be concerned that messing with the frame in any way carries too much risk of irreparable damage - if I couldn't live with an adaptor for my needs, I'd look more seriously into getting another gun that suited my needs.

+1 this

luckily my sd40ve came with a standard rail not the sigma proprietary one
