Actually... The qualifying portion isn't that tough for anyone who's been shooting for a few Years... The written Exam (if they have one) could be more difficult than the practical. Concentrate on the legal aspects of the use of deadly force and 'Shoot/Don't Shoot' situations as they pertain to the laws of SC.

Ask your Instructor to cover the concept of "Dressing To Conceal". It seems to be a topic that either a lot of people just don't understand, slept through, or the class didn't cover.

Glad to see you are taking a class. I didn't have a class - just an online test of 20 questions.

I have heard that the ones with actual handgun exercises and drills may have you shoot with left and right hands single handed. I've never fired my gun with only my left hand. I'd probably fail. :)

I am not sure what the requirements are for South Carolina, but advise for a training class in general: have an open mind.
You might know some of the basics that might be covered, so treat it as a review.
Ask questions if there is something that is not clear or you do not understand.
Take clear notes. The information will be easier to understand in real time, while it is fresh, instead of looking at the manual without your notes a few weeks later.

First tell us what the requirements are? The instructor for the class you're taking should be able to provide them to you.

Practice doesn't make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect. When you think you've reached perfect, go back to square one.

So, without the requirements, we can't give you any advice on how to prepare.

You should look at this though: http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/southcarolina.pdf

Based on that link I provided, there is no shooting requirement for you. Because you can produce a DD214 showing you went through basic military training you only have to show that you went through training teaching information on the statutory and case law of this State relating to handguns and to the use of deadly force.

Should be easy.

Suggest you go online and read the law for your area(s).

Put together a list of questions to ask when you take the class.

If you intend to carry, then you will want to have a lawyer - or at least a service which can refer a lawyer.

Where do you live Ive never heard of a online class I know the NRA doesn't have any and most state's require class room time and range time. I'am a NRA pistol instructor from Ohio we're required 10 hrs class room and 2hrs range time. So I was just wondering Thanks.

"practice practice practice " ..... umm no ... try Laws laws laws.
Thats what the permit is more about than anything. Understanding the laws governing defensive shootings.

in recent news .. a man by the name of Dunn is now DONE because he didn't pay attention to that part of class.
