SigSauer P226 X-Five All Around slide mark

I got a look at a SigSauer P226 X-FIVE All Around, .40S&W today.
If you haven't seen one, scrap everything you know about the P226. This thing is HUGE! Weighs 45 oz EMPTY! Solid steel frame instead of aluminum. The sucker is a piece of artillery and should probably be crew-served.
I set it next to my Remington R1 full-size 1911 and the Sig is BIGGER!

Whilst looking it over I see a roll mark on the slide just aft of the "P226 S" mark, and on the frame just forward of the serial number. It looks like a frog that went SPLAT on the sidewalk, lain over a pair of wings. The wings, if that's what they are, seem to resemble the old German Imperial Eagle. A capital letter "N" is just below it. The mark is barely 4mm, top to bottom, and I did not have a camera and lens that could focus close enough to capture it. Tomorrow (Wednesday) I hope to get another look at it and use a Micro lens to get a pic. If I get it for another look, I'll shoot it, too.

Some other things for Sig fans:
1. I'd like to hear from anyone with experience with the P226 X-FIVE All Around, any caliber. This one's a .40S&W.

2. I'd like to hear about anyone's experience with the Sig forums. Are any as good as this one? I don't want to waste my time reading blather by 12-year-olds who haven't even held a Sig, or cyberspace ninjas.

3. Another participant in this forum had a Sig .357Sig barrel for his. I'd be interested in buying one.

4. FYI. I called Sig for some specific model information and the tech rep said, simply, "WHATEVER IT IS BUY BUY BUY!" There is an embargo in Germany on shipping any Sigs, he said, to the US. Seems Sig sold some guns without meeting the German tracking requirements. He said he had no idea how long the embargo would last, so until it's lifted, what's here is IT.

I love the Sig Sport pistols. I have many X5 and X6 autoloaders.

It sounds like you are referring to a proof-mark on the slide. Remember, these are German guns, not American made guns.

I have an X5 Allround in 9MM and another in 357SIG. These are fantastic firearms. If that shop has a range (and the gun is used), see if they will let you take out for a test drive. |Only a few factory 357SIG X-barrels made it to the US, but aftermarket barrels are available from places like Bar-Sto

X5s are not that huge, the frames are the same size and the slides are only six tenths of an inch longer. Yes the frames are stainless instead of alloy so they weigh more, but that really tames recoil and keeps the firearm on target.

If the weight is that big of a deal for you, there are alloy framed X-family pistols line the Tactical and Tactical TB.

As to Forums, is there really a SIG forum other than SIGforum.com?
 
Thanks, Colt SAA. You're the one who inspired me to look for this gun.

The X-FIVE is the only one I've managed to rummage around and find close enough to touch. I see a number in the auctions, and even the X-SIX.

As to size, I was "broken in" on the 225, 228 and 229/357Sig, somewhat later the 220/.45ACP and 226/9mm. There were no .40s. The weight combined with the extra size makes the X-FIVE seem a lot bigger.

The Sig Tech/customer rep seemed not to know of them in 357Sig. In any case, as you had advised, no barrels. They want the gun sent back to them to have new barrels fitted, anyway.

Funny thing (to me), I have an Equinox 229/.40S&W. It is the only Sig I've ever SEEN that isn't a tack driver. Shoots patterns. It IS going back for work and I'll ask them to install a 357Sig barrel. I know I'll pay extra for that, but that's OK with me.

HA! Just saw a pic of the tarted up 226 X-FIVE Blue Moon! Hmmm. Wonder if I can trade . . .

Some years back I was given the Sig 226 Blackwater with the bear paw marks on the top of the slide and on the grips. Also has "Blackwater" engraved on the right side of the slide. Interesting (to me), the magazines are marked "Mec-Gar Made in Italy." Four of them, 20 rounds each.
It's frame is not as long as the X-FIVE, and the grip panels, at least, are longer than the X-FIVE.

I'm also looking for walnut grips for the X-FIVE. The only ones on the Sig website are for the SAO gun. Maybe have to go aftermarket.

I'd planned on shooting it today, but we had rain all night and I'm still cleaning mud out of everything after a session last week doing "Rastoff's challenge." That would be a good try-out for the X-FIVE, methinks.
 


I originally wanted the Comp model but they were tough to find. After a few months I found the Above AA in .40 S&W. Not at all what I wanted but it was NIB and it was reasonably priced.

Bought it and shot it in forty but really wanted a 9mm. So I sent it to The Sig Armorer shop in TX. He added a fiber optic frt sight and did a wonderful action job. From the factory the action was MUCH nicer than any of my 229's or 226's. But once he was done it was borderline amazing.



Also had him install Bar-Sto barrels in both 9mm and .357 sig. He test fired after fitting the barrels and included the recoil springs I needed for each barrel.

I have shot the .357 sig a lot. A real hot rod compared to the 9mm barrel. Both barrels are quite accurate. I'm a SIG fan but REALLY a fan boy when it comes to the X series. The SIG PC shop in S&W speak.

My all around and the 9mm Comp I eventually found.

I really like the X series sigs. A real step above the standard line guns.

OP the SIG Forum is first rate. Similar to this site, with a loot of good folks and few clowns.

The deer antler is the mark of the Ulm proof house. Heckler and Koch use this proof house. Then you should have the eagle with an N underneath which is the actual proof mark showing it has passed the nitro test. You're lucky to get this gun :)

Did you have any problems with the 357Sig barrel? I hope the one I just ordered will drop in because I'd rather not have to try to find a gunsmith knowledgeable in doing that and have to ship it anywhere.
I see you had it installed by an armorer, so maybe my question does not apply.
