I was thinking about jumping through all the paperwork hoops and getting a silenced .22 rifle. What kind of accuracy can I expect? Does the silencer affect the accuracy of a good rifle?

I'd probably use a Ruger 10/22 as a platform....

I'm looking for something trouble free, easy to clean if necessary. I'd be using the rifle for backyard target practice, into a safe backstop, just don't want to disturb the neighbors....

your biggest concern will be ammo.
above 1100 FPS (1050 is a good practical limit ) the bullet itself make a super sonic crack which is in some cases louder than the gun shot.
there are some full power sub sonic rounds out there, but most are just reduced loads that usually fail to cycle an auto. a less frustrating platform would be something of a manually operated repeater be it bolt action, pump or lever since these do not have any need of impulse to operate.

Subsonics operate well in my Remington 552 and my Ruger MKII. The 552 will also cycle with shorts.
Don't know about supressed accuracy.

Not a rifle but I have one on my Marvel 22 auto. Silent is not true suppressed yes you will not need ear protection. Some sub-sonic ammo will not function the slide others will. Accuracy is phenomenal not at all adversely effected by the silencer.

Most of the noise seems to escape from the slide on opening so a locked breach should be quieter. At the indoor range all you hear is the clank of the bullet hitting the backstop and I have had surprised shooters look over to see what I was using.

SSK JD Jones made mine

I have three silenced .22 caliber weapons, 2 rifles and one handgun. I also have a silencer on my 17 HMR "squirrel rifle".
Yes, there is a supersonic crack if you use supersonic ammo. However, most M/T ammo, and a lot of other ammo is indeed subsonic.
To my ear, and in my experience, the SS crack does indeed raise the sound of the shot being fired, but not to the degree a unsilenced rifle does...
The 10-22 is an excellent platform for silencer work...parts are available off the shelf, magazines, stocks, sights, etc...however, all silenced weapons make the weapon dirtier, faster than a gun that is sans silencer, 22 or centerfire...I have centerfire cans as well.
You must clean your 10-22 in order to make it run well...
Mags tend to get gunked up pretty quick as well.....
.22 cans come sealed, or not. If you are obsessed about cleaning your cans, get one that is NOT sealed....more expensive, but it is the only way to disassemble one. I have both kinds (YHM Mite and SWR Spectre, and a SWR Warlock) All three are great cans.
