I've read so much stuff on the net and I can't decide what to use for smallbore pistol silhouette with my 617. Some recommend 2x, others 4x and still others say variable. I've read that the 2x is best for a steady hold since you don't notice how much "wobble" is going on. Some say 4x is the highest usable power for silhouette to 100 meters. I'm thinking the Leupold VX-III 2.5-8 would probably be best, but dang, $550? I need your input. Thanks.

i can't give you any advice because i'm fixin to buy my first pistol scope as well. i am gonna buy the leupold 2.5-8. i figure that you can't go wrong with leupold. they made every other scope i own and they have all worked perfectly and lasted for years. plus, i can't see how having a multi-powered scope could be a bad thing. you are totally right about the price. i believe that it's a fair price for what you receive, but man, that's the price of another gun. time and time again i find myself trading the opportunity to own one just to add another gun to the stash.

I use a Leupold 2X and am very happy with it. Movement is not an issue and my groups have improved a lot. Higher power and I notice the shakes too much.

If you can ignore the shaking and put the scope where you want it and let it move around in a figure 8 you will hit what you are aiming at but your mind has to be clear and you must concentrate more.
