i just purchased a savage 111 300 win mag. with a simmons blazer 4 to 16 scope. i have no knowledge of this scope and it has a knob on the left side that when you turn the knob it has a post that flips up. what is that for? i can't find any informatiom on the net reguarding this knob. will this scope hold up with this 300 win mag cal? thanks bruce

A wild guess for a left side knob would be for paralax adjustment. I believe Bushnell bought Simmons, and a call to their tech support would be where I would start. I have had good experience with them.

Sounds like you can change the cross hair to a post(European) style, which is considered better in low light conditions. Not sure you need that much magnification(16X). Recoil from magnum cartridges is more stout. I would use a lower power scope from a company that gives a lifetime warranty such as Leupold or Burris. 3X9 with a larger objective(50 or 55) and a 30mm tube should be all you need. Just my NSHO. :)
