Simply Rugged Sourdough IWB

I have been looking hard at Simply Rugged's Sourdough holster. It has received some pretty good reviews here on the forum. My question is, how well does it work with the inside the waistband straps? I prefer to carry IWB, but with N frames, it can be difficult to find an IWB holster. Pics are always appreciated if you have any. Thanks!

I have a lot of Simply Rugged Holsters. But they are all used OWB.

For IWB you should have a reinforced top. This makes reholstering easy. Without having the top part reinforced,it could be difficult to reholster because the holster will colapse.

Their holsters are well made but I'm not sure if you can get the top reinforced.

Good point. Most of the IWBs you see these days already have a reinforced top, so I hadn't thought of that.

On the other hand, if you are concealing your carry, just how often are you pulling the gun out and then reholstering? If you are like me, you put it on, go and do what ever is required, and then you get home and take the whole rig off. Personally, I think need for a reinforced top on a IWB holster is over stated.

If you ever have to use that pistol for self defense, reholstering afterwards is going to be the least of your issues. Just take your time.

Not having a reinforced top makes practice a lot harder. Do you like having to unbuckle your belt every time you draw at practice and have to put your gun away? If you don't practice you may have trouble getting your gun out when you have to.

I wear one IWB carrying a 4.25" Redhawk .45 colt.

When you draw, it leaves just barely enough room to insert the barrel end in the holster and that gives you the start you need.

I practice regularly with no problem.

The only problem I have had is that the Redhawk is pretty heavy and if you are down on your hands and knees crawling, the Redhawk can slip out.

I am pretty active and that is the only time I have ever had it fall out.

I carry it all day every day, sometimes for as long as 20 hours at a time, do all of the ordinary outdoor things like running the chain saw, farm work, etc., and never have any other problems.

Big as the Rehawk is, at not quite 3 o'clock, maybe 2:45 or 2:50, it blends in with my clothes really well.

Every one and every business can make a mistake. I have LOTS of Simply Rugged gear and have had Rob do special order stuff for me more than once. On one special order, things didn't turn out quite the way I had envisioned them and he made it right, even though one could argue it wasn't his fault since we were experimenting together. Rob is one of the most customer-focused, honest, nicest guys I know. If you talk with him, I have no doubt he will make it right with you.

As to the original poster's question. I regularly carry a 3" 625 and a 4" 624 in a Sourdough with the inside-out straps. The gun is held high and tight to my body and I've never had either gun slip, despite being a geologist and tromping up and down mountains. Carried the 625 in its rig on a 3-day canoe trip and never had the gun budge unless I wanted to draw it. The draw from both rigs is smooth and fast. When I had one, I carried my 329 the same way. I would literally forget the gun was on, it was so comfortable.

Granted, reholstering isn't as easy as with some other holsters, but that is more than made up for with all the other pluses of the design. I've been carrying N-frames this way for over four years, if that tells you anything - ever since I got my first holster with inside-out straps. And, I've ordered more in the same configuration. It just plain works for me.

Thank you for all the responses. I think that for $15 for the IWB straps, it is worth a shot. Worst case, I get a nice pancake, lose a few bucks, and find out it doesn't work for me. Best case, I get a nice pancake holster that can double as an IWB.

I have no doubt that Rob is a good guy and means well, but I get the impression he has taken on more than he can manage. When I talked to him he offered to make it right, but I lost confidence in him because he never looked at my email nor did he remember our conversation. Sometimes these guys start off with good intentions, and just get bogged down with too much business.

I just wrote an email to Rob telling him his wife deducted $15 from my credit. I will know very soon if he is a legitimate business man or if his business is out of control. All I ask is for him to do the right thing in my case which is refund all of my money.

I dunno - Simply Rugged built their 20,000th holster this year. I would imagine at this point he knows exactly how much he can chew.

I would like to add to my earlier.

I am more than satisfied. Because I wear mine at about 2:45 rather than at the 3 o"clock position, it really has a negative tilt when I am crawling on my hands and knees.

If I wore it at the standard 3 or 4 position, it would never move.

Even with the way I wear it, it takes a lot of crawling and a long time for it to dislodge.

It certainly will never move with normal movement, like ducking through a barbed wire fence, ducking under tree limbs in the woods, etc., both of which I do quite often.

So I have no complaints.

I've had the pleasure of spending some range time with Rob (the owner of Simply Rugged). He is a fine gentleman and I saw a good deal of his work that weekend.

In fact, I just received a custom ordered 5" Lawrence style 120 holster from Rob. I'm proud to say I own a 'Simply Rugged' holster. And no, I'm not hawking Simply Rugged holsters because of our friendship, I'm simply stating the truth.

Count me as another who is very pleased with the holsters & service I've received from Simply Rugged. Rob has always been a class act in my dealings with him. I have holsters from him with and without the IWB straps, and have gotten good use out of all of them. I think you'll be pleased with your decision.

I know this is an old thread but I thought Id keep the information on Simply Rugged fresh.

I ordered two of his holsters. One for my Ruger SR22 w/CT Laser and another for my S&W Model 327 NG. I did send him an email prior to my order in regards to having the laser and if it would cost more because of it. I didnt get a response within 24hrs so I went ahead and made the order anyhow and just put all that info in the order form.

Still have not heard from him. So Im not saying there is a problem with that. Just disclosing my full experience. I figure Id rather have him working on my holsters rather than replying to my probably unnecessary email. I think my official order was Monday night March 5 so March 6 is my official start time I would say. So in four or less weeks Ill report back my results, which from what Ive read on the interwebs will be a positive one. Thanks for popping in this thread Rob, can wait to receive your work

My 4" valor is in one of Robs sour doughs and inside my waistband, held in with the straps he supplies almost 14 hours a day almost everyday, I don't have any reason to change!!

I've got my old M60 on as I type in a Siver dollar sourdough with the straps. It is very comfortable, concealable, and since I've lost so much weight lately it helps fill out the waist of my pants and keep them up!
I am very impressed with Simply Rugged and plan on ordering more holsters from Rob

I heard dat! Ya know they say buy pants and belts 2 sizes too large- when you get older, and have lost weight- there's this extra- tissue- around the waistline. In my case, I don't need larger pants, the holster just kinda- melts- into my side- and fits perfectly.

Referring to Post #15. My four weeks has come and gone. I had never heard from him so I emailed through the contact form on his website. This time I get a response in hours saying my holsters will ship this week. He also had proof that he did reply to my first inquiry. I never found it but its good to know I was not ignored as I thought. If they ship this week Ill be pleased as punch.

Ill keep this updated and eventually will post pics and what I think of the new holsters.

EDIT: They did show up on Saturday April 7th so thats not bad. They look great. Still using them to get a mini review and some pics.
