I found an older Skil 77 in a pawn shop for $8.00 today. Even though I already have one I couldn't pass it up. After some cleaning it is starting to look much better. I was also pleased to see that the armature and rear bearing were in good shape.
My question is about the gear oil. It was down some but not empty and the saw ran fine (no load). I've drained the old oil which looked bad - but no chunks- and was wondering about flushing the gear case with kerosene or just refilling with new oil? Or maybe refilling it with new oil, running it for a while to get warm and then changing it again?
