When I bought my MOE 15-22 in January it was part of a larger plan.
First, get the 15-22 and shoot it for fun and to establish a base of reliability. I have over 2300 rounds through it and the gun is very reliable. Some brands of ammunition not so much, but the gun is reliable.
Second, get a Slide Fire stock. Well, it arrived the other day. I got the Kit with the stock, FCG, and Recoil Enhancer bundled together by the good folks at Slide Fire. I added the threaded trigger pins, and a rubber butt pad. The butt pad increases the length of the stock slightly, which is good for me, and also serves to provide a grippy surface to my shoulder pocket. I have printed the BATFE letter and placed it in a baggie inside the buffer tube and the butt pad serves to help enclose the letter.
The third step in the plan will be to get a .223 AR, probably a Colt 6920. My plan has been to put the MOE furniture on that rifle and a different handguard. I like the AB Arms Pro Handguard without the rail on top. Step 3 won't happen for several months to a year, so I will need to remain patient.
When the .223 AR arrives the Slide Fire stock will see occasional use on the platform, however the stock will see primary use on the 15-22 due to the huge cost savings in burning through .22lr versus .223 Remington. I will be reloading .223, but even then the cost leans heavily toward the .22lr.
If everything continues according to plan I will pump 500 rounds through the 15-22 on Tuesday. I may shoot a magazine or two in single shot semi-automatic mode and then the remainder using the stock as the manufacturer intended.
I have already checked with the Range Safety Officer where I shoot, and he has NO PROBLEM with SlideFire, or even Class III, so long as everything is legal. SlideFire he already knows is legal, and Class III he would just need to see the tax stamp. The only rule is that all rounds need to hit the backstop. It is nice living in a state where the Second Amendment is respected.
In the past I have rented full auto Class III firearms before and it sure is fun, just prohibitively expensive.
I have seen plenty of YouTube videos where people are able to get these stocks to work without lighter triggers or recoil enhancers. Getting the kit should make this purr like a kitten. I am very excited.
