Hi

As others have noticed, I have a brand new, never fired 1911 E-Series, the take down pin/Slide stop is rubbing against the frame. Upon field stripping the handgun it is noticeable far more. In the photos it looks black but it's actually rubbing/scatching the surface of the firearm.

If this is occurring brand new after 1 test fire by the factory and maybe 6-7 slide lock tests to examine the firearm I expect a serious groove to develop over time.

Is this to be considered a manufactured defect, and if so will it require the entire gun returned and replaced as it affects the actual serialized firearm frame(receiver)?

Do others notice this in their e-series and is this normal?

Shouldn't the slide stop be engineered in a way to clear the frame (receiver) without scratching it?

My "new" PC1911 has a similar mark from the lever's movement up and down. Contact between the body of the lever and the frame depicted in your photographs is normal, in fact, inevitable. I'm not sure if S&W would warrant the appearance of the frame that is behind this moving part. I'm not speaking for them, but I think that they would also consider this "normal".

All of us want the things we buy to look new and unused for as long as possible, but wear and tear is unavoidable.

IMHO - and that's just what it is, opinion, that should not be happening. I've seen it on other models (one of my Kimbers) but a properly fitted lever should not ride against the frame.

I wonder if polishing that surface on the slide stop would help alleviate
the scratching,
I would be looking at that as a possible fix.
