I just threw my crock pot / slow cooker out as it was cooking too fast, too hot.
I know we have some folks here who are good cooks so I am looking for your input on which slow cooker to buy. I really don't like digital bells and whistles, just a good quality sloooooooooooooooooooow cooker.

I think we have an old oster. Works great and use it weekly. Best recipe I have is this, great beef sandwiches.

1 3lbs Sirloin Tip Roast
3 packages of dry Italian dressing mix
1 16oz bottle of pepperchini peppers
1 cup of beer, I like Sam Addams Boston Lager

Cook on low for 10 hours. At the 8.5 or 9 hour mark I pull apart the roast. At 10 hours it's done. I then make sandwiches with sliced fresh French bread. I place deli provolone cheese on the sandwiches and put them in the oven with the broiler on. Bout 2 minutes you have one badass sandwich, always requested at my super bowl parties.

Whatever you do, get one with a glass lid. Many have plastic lids these days, and they just aint' the same. The heavier the glass lid, the better.

Just went and looked, ours is a West Bend brand. It has Hi, Low, and Keep Warm settings. I use the low setting the most, works very well. Just cooked a roast in it two nights ago. Yum!

Latch down lid

Howdy,
We have two and they have a latch down lid with a rubber seal.
Christmas and other times of the year we make up Chili, latch it down and throw it in the car and not worry about spills.
It's a feature I like.
Thanks
Mike

I have a Rival brand crock pot. Its cool...its stainless steel. Maybe that's where my 3rd Genitis got started! Anyway, it has four settings & you can program it if you want. Its always worked out well for me. I use it mostly for chili, soups, stews, carne guisada, stuff like that.

I have used just about all of them and they all work, I prefere the type with a removable stoneware type bowl. They dont burn on the bottom with those.

Best recipie...

Get youself some Country Style Boneless Ribs( I think it's just pork shoulder strips).

Put them in the cooker, I pack them fairly snug.

Set the cooker on high for 8-12 hours.

Drain the juice, add the BBQ sauce of your liking and stir. It will just fall apart as you mix in the sauce.

It's the best pulled pork sandwich your ever going to eat.

Get a removable insert like said above. I have a Crockpot brand one and like it, the biggest plus is its very easy to clean.

I have a Hamilton Beach 3-in-1 Slow Cooker that I like very much. It comes with 3 stoneware bowls- 2, 4, & 6 quart sizes, and a glass lid. The bowls are removable, and can be used as serving dishes, and then put in the dishwasher. There are heat selector buttons for each bowl size, and the heat control knob is HIGH, LOW, WARM, & OFF. Thus, for quick heating for example, the 6 quart button with the control on HIGH, will bring the 2 quart bowl to a boil very quickly. You can then dial it back and let it slow cook. It is the neatest, handiest slow cooker I have found, and it available for about $70 most places.

Wish I had known that before I used the duct tape and got the orange carpet stain in the car.
