I have a Toro lawn mower with a B&S 120000 series engine on it.I believe the key to the flywheel is partially sheared and I need to replace it.Can someone describe to me in simple terms how to remove the "stuff" necessary to get to the flywheel?

Thank you ! I managed to get the flywheel off and am now replacing the key that was indeed sheared!
Now I need to know the correct armature gap to check and see if it is correct.

Should be able to find that HERE.

To set the gap, just use a piece of card stock like the back cover of a notebook pad or something similar. Put the card stock between the magnets and the coil with the coil mounting screws loosened, and then tighten the screws that hold the coil. You can also back the coil off quite a bit, then loosen the mounting screws and lower the coil down to the magnets without letting it slam as the magnets will be pulling on the coil with pretty good force. Now rotate the crankshaft and the card stock should be able to be pulled out as you rotate. Even gap set without trying to fight the magnets, Shoo

shooboy is right. Most of them call for a .008-.012 air gap. A business card works well. Let the armature magnet pull itself against the flywheel with a business card between them. Tighten the armature and turn the flywheel to get the card out.
