Smart Carry holster looks good

Snicker all you want. This is how I've carried for a couple years now. I have several brands and sizes of the ITC holsters. To the gym in lightweight shorts, I wear a size small SmartCarry knock-off containing a P3AT with mag-extension and CTC laser. Once I get home and change, the P3AT goes in the back pocket and on goes a medium thunderwear with my 3914 with NO CTC laser (Crimson Trace please note!) or a 915 with CTC and 3.5" slide. The 3914 can go under any pants or shorts. The 915, with its thicker grip, needs a little extra space.

This truly ended my monthly holster purchases looking for something that worked. It is the only practical all-around carry method.

The only real problem with becoming paranoid is identifying the exact point at which one is being paranoid enough!

LOL, too true, but who would you most want in charge of security?

That's one of the common things that scare people off is having the gun right close to body parts they are very fond of. Anyone who has a pistol that they fear will discharge without the the trigger being pulled is well advised never to put ammunition in it, much less carry it.

With this type of holster, there is definitely a learning curve. For example, using a public toilet is a cinch but there is a "manual of arms" to follow to keep your pistol hidden. (No comments please.) Although most any pistol will fit in any size ITC holster as long as the holster is long enough, for me certain holsters work better with certain guns, and in certain positions. For example, I have a Thuderwear and a black nylon clone that both are the same size. In one of them my 3913 droops forward at the top. But in the other one, my PF9 rotates to an uncomforable angle.

Here's another importang thing I learned with these holsters. Some guns feel most comfortable and conceal best with the barrel on the left, and others with the barrel on the right. Being right handed, if the barrel's on the left, so it rides down my left pant leg when I sit, the grip is pretty well centered. If the barrel's on the right, so it rides down the right leg, the grip is pretty well under my pants pocket and gun is basically in an appendix position. Certain guns fit better one way and certain ones the other. My P3AT and 3913 are best left and 5903 and PF9 are best on the right. Try it both ways for each gun you'll be carrying.

Well, there are limits, even for me. I've tried a 3913 on the right and P3AT on the left in the Thunderwear while keeping another P3AT in the back pocket. Comfortable, practical, front draw, rear draw, left-handed draw. But 3 guns just seemed a bit too much.

I just don't believe in carrying a "bare" magazine. A "spare" magazine is fine, but it should be loaded in a gun. That covers so many more contingencies than a single gun plus a bare magazine.

I have one. Usually carry my 638 in it, but have even used it with my para covert carry .45!
They work well.

Hardly. I used to use mine to haul a Taurus PT145, away from prying hands on the dance floor, until the stupid thing's frame broke. Hardly knew it was there, while it was.
Even a stainless Officer-sized 1911, a pretty dense little gun, had no weight issues.
The weight is borne well by the straps on the hips.
Edited to add: The 60's hammer spur would likely be a bigger deal than weight.

Good point about the hammer spur. Is is not wise to carry any firearm with a hammer spur in the Smart Carry?

Rhinestones and glitter don't hurt, either.

Accessorizing really is the craze these days. Nothing says fashion like Smart Carry and matching pumps for evening wear. Of course anyone wearing this ensemble before 6:00 PM would be very tacky!

I use a Smart Carry with a Wilson Compact and full size 1911's. I'm 5' 9" 165lbs. I also use a Milt Sparks SS old 1980 vintage.
The Smart Carry is definitely deep concealment and with practice you can make a fairly fast draw. Not what quite as fast as with IWB carry.
If you wear the Smart Carry as instructed you can do any normal activity.
No one ever know I'm carrying when I use it which is a big plus. Also you can wear it and go shirtless if thats your thing.
I have had no concerns about the positioning of the muzzle when worn as directed.
If you look around on the Smart Carry site you'll see the designer showing he carries a full size 1911 and he appears to be a skinny little guy.

I have worn a couple of different-sized Smartcarry holsters
The pistols have been:
Keltec P11 & P40
Makarov (Double-stack)
Llama Mini-Max II (.45 Double-stack)
I usually wear them in the summer under a pair of cargo shorts
I have worn it at the beach under Boxer swim trunks
I have also coached soccer with them under an old pair of referee shorts.
Had no problems swimming or running around scrimmaging.
The only time I worried was when sitting down, to make sure the shorts/trunks did not ride up and expose the bottom of the SmartCarry holster.
I also took one Europe last summer, as a wallet/passport belt.

The only problem is if you are tucking your shirt into your pants, you need an undershirt for comfort.

BugBeard, as a SmartCarry owner you should be aware that there's no possible way that your barrel could be pointed at your "jewels," since the holster goes on over your genitalia and prevents the pistol barrel from pointing inward. Presumably none of us are so well endowed that bits of us ooze down and in front of this pouch holster.

I seem to recall a pretty humorous thread not too long ago by an owner who complained of numbness and inability to function, as a result of pressure in the wrong place.

Everyone - watch for symptoms!

I just received my Smart Carry. It is, by far, the most concealable and comfortable method I have ever used to carry my model 60.
