Howdy....

The "Catalog of Smith and Wesson, volume 4, list production numbers of model 24-3 specimens. However, I don't have any idea how many model 624's were manufactured.

Already own 2 - 6 1/2" that were probably made in the same month. One has TT and TH, the other one has standard width trigger and hammer.

Just purchased my 3rd model 624, this one in 4-inch w/ box.
Serial AHC322x. The "Catalog" states that AHC numbers were produced in 1985, 1986, and maybe 1987.??

Anyhow, anyone got information on how many 624's were produced in different barrel lengths and exactly what year this 4-inch was produced??

Many thanks in advance, Bo

I've never seen a printed reference as to how many Model 624's were made. The gun was developed by S&W because S&W had made a fixed number of blue 24-3's (7,500) and said they weren't going to make any more. It appeared that the demand for Model X24X's wasn't satisfied so here came the Model 624. I think that S&W overestimated the demand, and the 624's were fairly slow sellers. S&W had planned to upgrade them along with other N frames (624-4, 624-5, etc.) but there apparently weren't any actually manufactured.

SCS&W IV is as good an estimate on shipping dates as we have. If you call the factory customer service department during their work day, they may be able to give you a closer date.

If you have the box, then there is a date code on the label. Under the heading Spec. Ord. is a 4-digit number that probably begins with a 5 or a 6.

What is that number?
