I recently saw a S&W .357 Magnum pre model 27 made in 1950 without the S&W logo on the right side plate. Would anyone know if any of these guns were made without the S&W logo stamped on the side plate or why it's missing? Any help would be much appreciated.

Photos would help here, but the two options are a refinish that removed the logo, or the stamping was missed during the production process. The latter would have been visibly obvious so unlikely.

Thank you for your input. I didn't mention the gun is nickel. It didn't look to be a re-nickel. There is no S&W logo on either side plate.

No Smith & Wesson Logo on Nickel Pre 27

With almost 99+% certainty, there was a S&W Logo roll mark put that onto gun when it was made, on the sideplate, or on the left side of the frame. If the qun in question is the nickel plated one I saw just recently posted on the big online auction with the nickel plated hammer & trigger, that gun’s been severely buffed by someone over time. The “Smith & Wesson” rollmark on the left side of the barrel is partially buffed off too as is the serial number on the butt of the frame. It also looks like something’s wrong with how the front sight ramp fits on the rib, it doesn’t fit properly.

The seller does mention it’s been refinished, but fails to go into much detail or describe the damage that’s occurred by removing so much metal. Certainly not a factory refinish.

From what little I know about this fiasco, your curiosity is well founded---just so long as you are NOT considering exchanging good money for this---------thing-------or even bad money!
