Smith and Wesson M460 38spl 170055

Came across a S&W Performance Center Model 460, 5 shot, 38spl revolver with a ported 1.875" barrel. There is limited information in the 4th edition S&W catalog, about 450 made from my understanding. Curious if anyone in the forum is able to shed a bit more light on this unique revolver. Not at all what you think of when you hear Smith Model 460.

Nice looking revolver

I am a fan of Mag-na-Porting, but the 38 Special cartridge does not generate enough gas for it to be effective.

This revolver would have been better off with a Power Port

The single expansion chamber compensator would have been much more effective on loads that generated less gas volume
