I have a model 66-2 which I just listed for sale in the classified section. i'm wondering if you think I should keep the 66-2 or sell it for a 19-5? they are in similar condition. I don't know which is the better gun. Any suggestions?

It's not entirely clear from your post. Are you having second thoughts about selling a Model 66-2, or wanting to know if selling the 66-2 to acquire a Model 19-5 is a positive idea? Both the 66-2 and the 19-5 have very similar Engineering Changes, other than one being stainless, and the other blued steel; not much difference. Both great revolvers. I really like my 1988 vintage 2 1/2" Model 19-5. :)

More information is needed to provide any real useful input; what barrel lengths are the two guns? What is your intended use?

Both are 4" barrels. I am wondering if I am crazy for selling the 66 for the 19. i'm not sure if it is a good decision or not. thank you for your input.

For regular carry either concealed or in the field ..... the stainless 66 would be my choice.

For a classic S&W K frame for the range and/or the occasional carry ..... the rest of the time its just to look at.....:D...... I'd look for a Pinned and Recessed (P&R) Model 19 ..... no dash to -4.

Or as is the usual answer around here............... "get them both!!!"

The 4" stainless M66 is one that EVERY revolver guy should own. Maybe even a few of them .....

Every time there's a racket in the back yard, there's a 66 involved.

If the 66 served you well, then why get rid of it for an unknown gun that is very similar? Yes, I prefer blue over stainless, but that would not be enough to make "ME" do it. Bob

Model 66's are not as easy to find as model 19's.

They are essentially the same gun, but one is Carbon Steel, and one is Stainless.

If it were me, I would hold on o the 66-2.

Blued guns have more soul than stainless steel guns. I owned both models at one time. If I could snap my finger and make one of them magically come back it would be the 19

go with both, this bomber's been in the family since '83 :D

I have... uh... several handguns, and the 6" 19-3 is the prize of the lot. Said lot includes some pretty nice 1911s and an assortment of revolvers. Unfortunately, that assortment doesn't include a 66, so I can't make a direct comparison. There's something really special about the 19, though, it has an elegance that has yet to be matched in my collection.

Consider learning from other's mistakes.......mine for example.

When I was getting in the AR-15 platform heavy about nine years ago, I sold my Model 66 4 inch. It was pristine with box and docs. I have regretted it to this day. To add salt to the wound, my wife encouraged me to keep it, repeatedly.

Do what you feel is best but try to look to the future.

The only advantage of the 66 over the 19 is corrosion (rust) resistance. If you are going to carry the revolver a lot, stay with the 66.

I'd lean towards the 66 myself if I'm gonna carry and shoot it. If it's gonna be a safe queen I would get the 19 as I love to look at blue guns.
