Smith did me wrong

Why are you blaming Smith & Wesson? What did they do wrong? If I order a customer a case of liquor, I cannot be sure what the price is untill I see the invoice. If you buy gas in the morning and the price goes down by afternoon, do you expect a refund of? And if the price goes up, do you go back and pay the difference?

Sounds like Smith did nothing wrong. Sounds like the dealer screwed the pooch on this one, and is now between a rock and a hard place.

Agree 100%.

It smells to me like the dealer wants the extra 350. First your dealer has been getting interest on your deposit for the year. S&W does not make dealers pay for special orders until they ship. Second, looking back at my old catalogs Smith has made that kind of price increase from one year to another. I would ask other dealers for info without mentioning what your dealer told you.

I have two Randall knives comming this week after waiting 4 1/2 years. Paid a deposit at the time of order and that locks in the price. Call S&W I bet their policy is the same. Sounds like the dealer did not do it right.

I don't know what Smiths policy is on special orders but it may be something like 'tallpaul' refered to.
A deposit may have only secured the order to build. A payment in full may have been necessary to also guarentee the price delivered as ordered.

Or,,,maybe Mr GunShop is playing games too.
Did you see the actual request for the increased amount from S&W for the product on delivery? or is it just on the word of the shop that the order was placed through.

Like others have said,,that's an awful steep price kick over 12months.
Hope it works out for you. It's a long wait to hear something like that.

S&W did my wife wrong!

About a year ago my wife got a Model 60, with adjustable signts out of storage to look and oil it. She found the rear sight was in 2 pieces. My local gunsmith said it was a factory defect and should be taken care of FREE by Smith and Wesson.

They charged her $50.00 to replace it.

I spoke to my local dealer and he told me this is BS. Smith locked the price when the order was placed. My dealer thinks that your dealer got a better offer. He told me that sometimes he will place a special order and later someone else will also ask for a special order of the same gun. He normally tells the second person how long the first person has been waiting so they understand the time frame. Several times he has had the other person offer some extra money to move his order up to the first position. He thinks your dealer got a better offer to sell to someone else and the dealer is trying to milk you for more money. Try Budsgunshop or Gunbroker.

I tend to agree with luis in the previous post. I believe when a dealer calls smith and orders a gun, the current price for the gun is what is asked for. I'd say the price of this gun in general may have increased substantially and since your dealer had considerably less money in this one, he saw an opportunity to make mucho $$$. I would press him for the gun that YOU ordered for sure!
