Just aquired a mod 17-3, factory engraved( aux RCMP BC) anyone know any history on these guns, they appear to have been ordered by or issued to the auxillary RCMP officers in British Columbia for training, any information on there history would be appreciated, I have seen a half dozen of these come up for sale over the years

I will send for a factor letter

Please post photos of the markings. I thinkit strange it would be marked RCMP BC rather than RCMP E Division. Hope you will post the letter when it is received. It sounds like a very interesting revolver.

received factor letter gun was shipped 23 may 1974 to Spikeblock Emergency Equipment, Victoria B.C. Canada , special order for RCMP Auxililary, no mention of how many guns in shipment

Brucek,

I also have an RCMP Aux marked Model 17-3. My S&W letter also indicates it was shipped on 5/23/74 to Spike Block. So there were at least two in that shipment!

I do not have any pictures but I think Joe Salter has one for sale on his website.

Here is a photo.

same markings as mine

my S & W mod 17 has the same markings, if i did a follow up letter to S & W would they tell me how many guns were in the shipment, my serial # is 5k25878

My information tells me that these guns ended up as property of the British Columbia Government not the RCMP, which explains why they were sold to the puplic, the RCMP have not sold any guns since the old Colt New Services which were sold to the members in 1962, federal law does not allow them to sell any guns, they must be destroyed like the Mod 10 S & W's

For those who may be interested in these revolvers I have one of the Auxilary Programme K 22 revolvers with a simpler marking, mine is simply B.C. Aux . marked on the left side just under the clinder. The ser # puts it in 1977.

NB

BruceK - My serial is 5K80264 so it would suggest the revolvers in that shipment were not sequential. Unless the RCMP ordered a ton of them. The now sold RCMP 17-3 on Joe Salter's website was 8K95321 & that puts it in the 1975 range. Nick B's comes later still.

I wonder how many they ordered in total?

Units sent

I also have a K-22 with markings and there were 35 units sent. I sent for a gun history from S&W on mine (5K81245) and I was told 35 units were shipped to Spikeblock Emergency Equipment Co., for E Division. Fred

I am mow trying to find a veteran stationed in Victoria BC around the year 1974??

What kind of info are you looking for?. Very doubtful that a member from the early 70's is still around.

Can you anyone help me to find or confirm the date of manufacture or shipping date of the following 17-3?
s/N 5K80313
Also "Aux. RCMP B.C." marked.
Thanks
Tom
