I've been buying a few Smith revolvers lately and another one I'm considering at my LGS is on consignment from an individual. It's a Smith blued Model 19-3 config in 6 " Bar'l.

It has the original box and tools...... However, asking price is $1,200 which I consider to be over priced. The gun is in excellent condition - I'd say 98%.

Anyone with experience buying any of these lately and if so, what's a fair price for a 19-3 6"? I'm thinking more in range of $850 - $900 but not certain.
Thanks

Way too much money for that, IMHO

Your estimated value seems more in line with reality. Go in and flash some cash and ask them to call you when they are ready to deal at that level. Don't get in a hurry and the deal may fall your way. If it sells in the meantime, you just saved $1200.

That's what I'll do - offer the lower amount. It does have a pinned bar'l and the cylinder is recessed.

I’d start with $700, figuring to go up a little. Up would stop for me at $800. That said, if you really want it, and it’s really nice, remember it’s easy to gobble up $100 looking for another one, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll find a nicer one, or one as nice for less money. Sometimes it makes a little sense to pay a little more than you’d like. JMHO. :o

Wow.

I have a four inch boxed dash 2 in 98% that I'd have been more than happy to get 1200 for. I guess I should start thinking 1600 if this is where this is going!

Dash 3? I, personally wouldn't buy it.

Way overpriced! I paid too much for mine but it's because it is in such great shape. I've seen 6" blued or nickel 19-3s from $600 to $750 in my area

It's on consignment, so good luck with the negotiations! Sellers often want outrageous sums of money for common firearms. The dealer has little to no say in the negotiations, but if the firearm sits in the display case long enough, he might try to get the seller to come back to reality on the price. As for a realistic price, given the described condition and its original box and papers, it's a solid $800 sale in these parts.

Watch the Gunbroker auctions for a couple of weeks. I bet you find a nice 6 inch Model 19 you can buy for $500.

My least favorite of all SWs especially w a 6'' barrel. Weak forcing cone not suitable for 357 loads. The short barrels for carry ok, but a Sig 365 does that job better. $495 or not even negotiate for it. 586, 27, 28, 686 are a different story.

Yep, way over-priced. Around here that would be a $699 gun (tagged/asking price, not including tax or transfer) without the box. Might actually sell for more like $600 or so. Yes, box and tools will add to that price for sure, but not double it.

BTW, a 4" Model 19-2 in what appeared to be excellent condition just sold near me for $500+Tax. I was out-of-town for 2 days, so I missed out. :o Story of my life... :(

Consignment guns are a tough buy when the owner wants too much and the dealer adds his profit on top. My thought is they want 2X the real value on a 6” model 19. There were many made and generally easy to find. Keep shopping.

$1,200.00 - Holy ****!

Last November, I paid $810 for mine. And, I thought I overpaid but bought it anyway because it was in such great condition:

6” 19-4, pinned and recessed, no box/dox/tools

The guy wanting $1,200 is completely delusional.

Hi JRockA:

Welcome to the Forum. I agree with what others have said - the piece is way overpriced. As a general rule of thumb, with revolvers, the longer the barrel, the less desirable it is. Oysterer hit it right on the head in his thread. .38 Special/.357 Magnum is my favorite center fired handgun cartridge and I only have one 6.0 inch barreled revolver in my collection - a Model 686 in Silhouette configuration scoped with a 2.0x Leupold scope. Extremely accurate revolver that I use for deer hunting. The rest of my .38 Special/.357 Magnum revolvers are in 2.0", 3.0" and 4.0" barrel lengths.

If I were in the market for the revolver you're considering I wouldn't go much past $650.00 - $700.00 OTD.

Good luck,

Dave

That’s the price of like new cased Model 27s, even 3 1/2 or 5” here in over priced California. that said, I think the least desirable Model 19 (6”) would be a very practical and great gun to own and I’d love to own one.
