Hi guys,

I picked up a 3000 from a local gun shop yesterday. I'm hoping to get some information on it.

Is there a way to determine the manufacture date on it? I believe this is one of the law enforcement configurations. Is there a way that I can find out what agency it was originally sold to?

On the inside of the receiver under the ejection port it is stamped CODE NRS. What does that mean?

From what I can tell this gun is in its original configuration. Does it appear that way to you too?

I'm attaching a few pictures. The picture of two guns has my 3000 on top and my 870 on bottom.

Smith & Wesson imported the Model 3000 from 1981 to 1984. They were originally named the Model 1000P when introduced in 1980.
Your's looks to be original. No idea what CODE NRS means.

What are these guns worth these days anyways? I did some research but any value information I could find was 5+ years old. This gun is in great shape. The wood is good, mechanics are 100%, and the metal finish is decent (shows normal wear from use like on the mag tube but it isn't beat up)

I got one for $200 plus tax and Nics fee=$17.00 a few weeks ago. It was a five shot. I already had a long tube. I was told these are 870 copies but the parts are slightly larger and a little heavier. They work good on a close in covey of quail. I have shot both of mine without problems. The 916, not so good. These guns came out when President Nixon was handing out money to law enforcement agencies. (LEAA) A lot of it went to riot guns, mostly Ithaca 37's and 870's. Just about all were parked with walnut wood.
