Smith & Wesson .38 Safety Hammerless Fifth Model "Bicycle" Revolver

The barrel stampings on 4th and 5th Models were all in the same place no matter what the barrel length, but there were apparently some authenticated 38 guns from the factory without top rib stampings. David's gun is cut for one main reason. The factory always set the front sight back from the end of the rib. The sight blade on David's gun is flush and actually a little truncated on the front so as not to hang over.
