Perusing through a bunch of old docs and paperwork in the attic yesterday I came across this S&W flyer that evidently came with the docs for a Model 14 (as that was the box it was in). Don't know the era but the box was silver dash lines, circa 1977 for the serial number of the Model 14 end label.

Anyway...thought maybe some of this "load data" would be of interest to some of you handloaders.

Does anyone know what company actually produced the ammunition branded S&W? If it was actually S&W was it done at the main factory in Springfield, MA?

The Nyclad was developed to reduce/eliminate leading problems in indoor ranges. The teflon coating was over very soft lead. I think in the Bangor days of the 1980+/- that S&W actually manufactured this ammo as it was promoted heavily in those days to reduce the lead in indoor ranges in their advertising. After S&W dropped production, Federal picked up the Nyclad coated bullets. We have moved on to other coating as I understand the cost to coat greatly exceeds the cost of powder coating today. Others here may know more about the history of the Nyclad and S&W's productions. Barnes coated some of their rifle bullets back in the 1990s and then stopped production. Same story, way to expensive to apply coatings.

I don't believe S&W produced any ammunition during the Bangor Punta years, they simply contracted with various manufacturers to supply their branded ammo. I've read they had a hand in purchasing the Alcan Ammunition Co and turned production over to Fiocchi. .22LR ammo was made in Mexico, rifle ammunition was made in Canada (CIL?) and some pistol ammo was marked "S&W - Fiocchi". I know I have a box of S&W shotgun shells and I think they have a GF headstamp.

It's not firearms ammunition, but their CO2 cartridges were made in Japan.
