It is a .38 Military & Police model, round butt variation, from the very early 1920s. It should not have Made in U.S.A. stamped on the right side of the frame. That stamp first appeared in the spring of 1922.

It has the very common 4" barrel and what appear to be original black rubber stocks. It should be fun to shoot.

Person has it for sale and I would like to know the value of this piece please.
Thanks

I have 384,433 that shipped in May 1921. I have it listed as having a value of $450 today without the box. $450 - $500 if it is in excellent condition, but can't tell from the picture.

Love this site, you have many folks that are really helpful with info and their thoughts on values. You also have the ones that want to give you a smart *** answer no matter what you post. I thought this site was for S&W info and folks meeting to discuss such. Not to post a question and get some wise *** that wants to be seen. No matter what you get involved in you always have a few to screw things up.

As to worth, are you buying it as a collection piece or as a shooter? If you want an older gun, want to do a friend or family member a favor, or similar you might offer $550.

If you want a shooter, you should be able to pick up something 50 or 60 years newer for a few hundred less.
