As successful as he has been, there is no doubt that Russell's views have had a negative effect on his career, closing doors. Tom Selleck too. They know it, but have stuck to their principles, so hat's off to them.

Jeremy Renner talked about how he went from gun fearing to gun owning. He credited movies. Making them he realized it was nothing but metal, wood and plastic. It's the user who's ultimately responsible for how those things are implemented

Russell's made three films in 2015, the latest being The Hateful Eight, so I'm not sure about that negative effect thing. He probably works when he wants to work.
