So, let's hear it for the fancy MSR

As long as we're playing the pretty gun game this week, it occurs to me that the classic "black rifle" can be gussied up to be more than before. So, if you have any MSR-type rifle that is "more" than a standard AR or AK here's the place to show it off.

For instance, I have a tremendous fondness for olive drab. That goes back decades. I need to move on to "FDE" but that will come in the future. Here's an MSR all greened up:

Not a Smith and Wesson, but my main competition and home defense rifle. Aimpoint and Leupold Mk4 are both on QD mounts so the same platform can be tailored to the application of the day. Also a fan of your OD/Range/Foilage greens. No desire to go to FDE because... well I live in a temperate climate.

Well, I do have a black one, also. Just no picture. I'll fix that eventually.

I use red dot scopes on mine. The picture above shows the rifle with its pop up iron sights but I have a Meprolight for it to replace the one that was ruined by water that got into my safe during the April 2018 fire. The rifle is fine!

Oh, wait. I lied! I forget I have this (.223) Remington VTR Predator, too, and it's not black.

“MSR” is such a pandering and politically correct term.

THAT'S TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally agree. But the point of the term "modern sporting rifle" is to take "tactical" out of the discussion as much as possible.

When anti-gunners ask why do you need a military weapon like "that" isn't it easier to say it's a sporting rifle for target practice and hunting or modern shooting competition like 3-Gun and not for just the battlefield? ;)

I've got one in OD green too. Also one in FDE. I can't decide which I like best.

I’ve seen AR’s with full wood furniture, love that look.

Colt SP-1. I got one of those oldies too. Except mine does not have the forward assist.

Well I had an SP 1 from 1980 until the divorce sell off in 2011, she wanted that one. The classic that I have now is a complete M16A1 upper with original barrel on a Spikes lower with a M16A1 butt stock that came with the upper. All very old school.

This is an AR10 build on a DPMS lower that I finished about a year ago.

Here's an AR14 build on an Anderson lower. They both shoot as good as they look:
