Several years ago, I bought a 6" K-frame full underlug barrel off an auction site, thinking it was for a 14-5, -6, or -7. I don't recall the exact listing, but it was obvious that someone had tried to install it on a pinned frame, as evidenced by the groove they cut for it. I don't recall if the ad described the markings, but it is stamped .357 on the side, and I figured it was just mis-marked, as it was obviously a K-frame, as evidenced by the flat under the forcing cone. When it arrived, much to my surprise, the bore was .32; I even slugged it to be sure. So what we have is a Model 16 6" barrel, mis-marked as a .357 barrel - probably why they sold it.....
I've done some measuring, and here are the results, compared to a take-off 586 barrel I have:
Top of barrel to bottom of lug = 1.18 ( The 586 bbl. measures 1.22)
Barrel Shank diameter @threads = ~.537 (The 586 bbl. measures .558)
Barrel Shank length = .7395 (The 586 bbl. measures .7385)
NOTE: Other K-frames barrels I have measure ~.793 shank length
Barrel Shank diameter @ forcing cone (excluding factory flat) = .499 (586 bbl. measures .523)
So it appears that the shank length (un-touched) is about that of an L-frame barrel, although the shank diameter is that of a K-frame (with factory barrel flat). It appears that in order to properly work with a K-frame, it will likely have to be set back, but I'm not a gunsmith or machinist.
It is what it is; finding any .32 barrel for a K-frame project is going to be very difficult.
I had intended to keep it and use it to make a .327 gun, but have moved on from that idea, and it just occupies space on my bench; it needs to be someone else's project.
